fire extinguisher recommendation
Slater - 17/2/09 at 03:14 PM

Can anyone recommend a suitible fire extinguisher plus bracket to mount in my MAC#1. Just a handheld one, to be fitted after SVA.

I'd hate the thing to go up in flames and have nothing to stop it.

I think the best are the plumbed in versions. After all, the likely source of a fire is going to be the engine bay. Much easier to have either an automatic one or a simple pulley to pull than have to get out of the car, whip off the (burning) bonnet and start trying to put the fire out. By then the little hand held (600g) jobbies aren't going to be up to much.....

I've got a small extiguisher in the car for hand held use. You can get them from any motor factor/Halfords/petrol station.

Under the bonnet I've got one of these...

The hose is fire sensitive and bursts where the flames are. Just mount the bottle and run the hose around the engine bay, etc. It had enough hose to go around the engine, over the fuse boxes and then behind the dash. Was about £165+vat on an offer through Complete Kit Car mag'.

Not cheap but better than a write-off!

Ive also looked at this.
- If its going badly, its going to go, but as you say if you just smell a bit of smoke it would be horrable to be helpless.

I would have thought foam/afff was the best type, so might get a 1lt one of them.

Dont know what people think about that.
- Keep it in the cockpit. Not as good as a plumbed in system, but better than a box of dry tinder.

Found this too, no size, looks smaller, but would save the £9 postage.
