Fuel sender seals
piddy - 20/5/09 at 06:17 PM

Hello All. I've been having a few problems with my fuel gauge reading of late, so decided to take the sender out and check it over.
While trying to replace it I found that the sealing rubber washer has changed size so the holes that the screws go through no longer match up.
Presumably this has been caused by its contact with petrol.

Is there a way to get these to revert back to there original size?
Can you buy replacement ones easy enough?
I could easily make a replacement but how do you know what type of rubber to buy?
I found some rubber the correct thickness, how can I test it’s resilient to petrol?
I’ve put a bit in a container of petrol how long should I leave it in there?

Thanks for your thoughts.

You could make one out of cork.

You need a piece of nitrile rubber sheet

I might have a piece at work, I'll have a look when I get a chance.
