i was wondering how the megane does it having a card in stead of a key, and a push button start? ie no steering lock

I just started working for Renault today, as a fleet car sales exec. I didnt know until today that they got the whole keyless entry system approved, so you dont even need to press an unlock button anymore.

there is an electronically operated steering lock thats removed when you start it.

on my wifes car, you insert the 'key' in the slot, and then have to press either the clutch or brake pedal down to allow the 'start' button to function. the lock then comes off.

you dont have to leave the key card in - if you dont have it in, then the 'stop' button wont work.

the whole system is also lined to the door switches. if you stop the engine, then lights and radio stay on until the door opens.

great when its 10 years old and the switches are dodgy.

people slate the megane, but its the no 5 best seller for a good reason.

the 'dynamique' 1.6 we have has got electric everything - even the wipers sense when they should come on, and for how long. auto lights on, 1.6 gives 115 hp.

its got 225 wide tyres and really sticks to corners.

it cost just 11,200 after discounts.

If you can 'get over' the non conventional looks, its actually a very good car.

but as ive said before, the lotus seven wins no prizes in the beauty stakes - just look at that orange luego thing at the top of the page!!!!

You won't like this if you really want to know how the megan keyless entry works but here is my interperatation.

It either works by the card continually giving off a small electrical signal that presumably pulses and extends no further than 10m ish, which is picked up by a reciever in the car, but I doubt it as this code could then be read by a scanner and your car nicked.

I expect its a trade off of communication protocols to make this scenario work, just think of it as greetings that establish an ID withought transmiting the unlock code!

Or it could be achived the same way as the security system in shops, when you walk through with tagged items it beeps this is established by electrical induction in a circuit. Very complex and difficult!

If you want to try it though the simplest option would be:- wait till a Megan is written off, and buy it up or the parts you need ie key and Car electrical magic box thingy, goto the manufacturers and ask them which pins the keyless enrty works on and hook it all up.

I could really put you to sleep if you wanted even greater detail! Have you thought about just a button on a keyfob? hardly hard work, and I have one that starts my car, unlocks it, turns on and off the car stereo, and winds the windows up and down. Now thats a party trick!

you are describing the proximity one that merely needs the card on your person.

its an option.

the std car needs you to press a button on the card, and put it in a slot
