Hello I'm Fresh meat. Starting my Locost project.

Hello

I am a student at the University of Louisville in Kentucky in the USA. You guys have the best organized Locost site I have seen yet, so while you may be overseas, there seems to be much information to be had here.

I was a member of my school's Formula SAE team for a little over two years, in it I got the itch for a similar vehicle for my personal use.

I have begun the design process for my own locost vehicle. I plan to build from the ground up. I have no decisions in stone yet, so I am in need of a lot of advice.

Right now I plan to use either a Mazda RX-7 Wankel rotary or a motorcycle engine to power my vehicle. I am really leaning toward the motorcycle route for the low weight and option of midship mounting. Other than that I will most likely use the uprights from a Mazda MX-5 and do 4 wheel independent double wishbone suspension all the way around.

I hope you folks can guide me through the design and build of my own Locost racer.

Sincerely
Eric B.

Hi Eric.

Welcome to the forum. Have a nice day

I've passed my SVA with a Pinto engine on board but because I've got a bit of a problem with it, I'm dumping it in favour of a bike engine for my toy.

Hi

Nice to welcome another IRS developer to the site.

I'm building a book chassis and adapting it to IRS using a Ford Sierra XR 4x4 diff, driveshafts and hubs. Currently I have just the upper bones to finish.

Enjoy your build

Mick

Thanks for the warm welcome. I guess I'll start posting my specific questions into their respective forums.

Thanks again
Eric

There are quite a few american builders on here, all with their cars in various states. Im sure one of them was using a wankel too. May be worth speaking to a couple of them as the legalities for building cars are quite different to over here.

On another note a mate of mine has just transferred to Louisville from Montevallo in Alabama. He is halfway through a 4 year football (soccer) scholarship. He went down there a couple of months ago and said it was great!

Im coming over next spring so if you get that wankel done you will have to take us for a spin!

p.s. did you come over here for our formula student last month??

greggors, nope, never been over there. I'll be here in Louiville next spring but the car won't even be started yet. Regretfully I am currently living in an apartment and will be moving to Texas for a job right after I graduate. So, I am just desigining my vehicle for a hobby until I have disposable income.

Nice link jestre, Ill have to explore it further.

Thanks
