hi

sorry for this,

what is an indy? i did a search but it didnt really help, a site glossary would be handy there are a lot of terms being bandied around which have me and i assume some other people scratching their heads

cheers

so are most of the cars with names on here like indy and leugo (sp?) cars built from some sort kit?

just curious do most on here do that or do they do the book design and build frame themselves?

greggors84 - 17/10/05 at 12:18 PM

Alot of the cars on here are built from scratch using plans based around the book "How to build a sportscar for £250", a few kit car manufacturers supply a kit based on that chassis. Alot of people are also building kits, im not sure what the majority is.

Edit: So yes MK, Luego, Stuart Taylor, Mac1, MNR, GTS all build Kits plus many more names

Bit of each realy.
Problem with book design is that bits are getting hard to come by from MK1/2 escorts Therefore chassis manufacturers have come up with modified "book" designs ie. taller or DeDion rear.
This is sometimes an easier route than modifying the book design yourself.
having said that plenty of people are still building "standard" book chassis. Its a classic case of horses for courses (no pun intended)

Bugger! must learn to type faster.

It's a kit originally made by Martin Keenan (MK engineering) using a single (Sierra) donor, looking much like a Locost but with fully independant rear suspension.

One of the best 7-esqe cars around, it won Kit Car Of The Year last year (I think).

It's now made by "MK Sportscars" but their site is down at the mo'..

HTH

Cripes !, no replies, started to answer, got a phone call from me gran, finished the post, now there's loads of replies....

Great this place innit ?

i like the idea of them redesighning it because of lack of origional doners i also like the sound of the independant rear suspension,

do these companies offer plans of their modified chassis' because i'd still like to build my own?

DarrenW - 17/10/05 at 12:44 PM

The companies listed above make there own chassis for sale so wont offer you their plans. There are however several websites by some key people whereby the original locost plans have been updated and offered. I think McSorley is one. Try a post / search in the chassis section.
IRS locosts are still under development afaik, but larger locosts / corrected plans are widely available.

MK did sell chassis made from the original plans using a Dedion axle arrangement. i dont think any other manufacturers offered this option.

GTS do a drawings pack, so you can make your own with a de dion rear axle.

Luego sell the "Book" chassis and the Velocity (irs) chassis as a build it your self DIY kit. i have the velocity one and it comes as a set of pre cut (and a few pre jiged) parts to build the Chassis

matt12 - 17/10/05 at 06:11 PM

i like the look of the gts plans, its nicely in keeping with me wanting to vbuild the whole thing so reckon i'll be investing in some plans , cheers

JoelP - 17/10/05 at 06:42 PM

without pissing on the parade, gts have had trouble fulfilling orders on time recently. Darren is very busy, mainly due to a good component reputation. However, i cant see a set of plans being too hard to rustle up

Make sure you ring him to place the order, in person. That seems to be the way to stay high on his priorities!
