Hello everyone Great site.

I'm looking at buying a Formula 27 is there anyone on here that has got one and could shed a bit of light on them?
The one I'm going to look at is a 2.0 Zetec engine so should be fun.
What are these like in comparsion to other 7 type cars?
Also what type of suspension is normally used on these cars do they mainly use older ford stuff like other kits?

Hi Gary,
theres quite a few of us on here with F27's, have a look at my photos , I am in the middle of an engine change at the min, pinto to xe , took 4 yrs to build from scratch , the older models tend to be live axle, the latter use IRS at the rear, the latest models from the factory have switched to de-dion at the back. drop me a line if ya need any info,

I had a narrow bodied F27 clubman for 5 years and it was my 1st 7style car.

Very fond memories.

Gaz found a good one. It was mine

I am now without my car and am missing it already. I took Gaz for a quick test drive in the wet earlier, which was fun!!, and he was hooked.

I hope you have as much fun with it as I have Gaz and as I said, if you need any advice just drop me a line.

Your right Steve i am really enjoying it.
Sorted the rattle it was the exhaust hanger against the body.
The weathers been good today so had a nice day out in it.

hmm, which F27? They started off as a set of plans that you would build yourself - mine is early one - but as time went by they went more up market and now sold by YKC sports.

The chassis is probably no better or worse than any other 7 style car so no worries there - mine has doubled up tubes up the front so would be stiffer than a similar chassis - I certainly have no complaints from the front end.

the front suspension uses rocker arms with inboard shocks - gimmick or not - you decide but there are advantage of such a system e.g. less unspring weight, more aerodynamic and again I cannot say I have any issue with it; one possbile downside is the shocks impede air from to radiator but again that doesn't cause problems. Striker is another that uses this set up.

front end is cortina hubs and mk2 escort rack.

the chassis is now avaialable in 2 forms - standard and wide body.

early version, like mine, rear end is no so clever - used triumph dolomite shocks and in my opinion that is just too hard - I will be at some point changing to height adjustabel jobs. also the locating arms for the axle lead from the back as opposed to almost all other design that trail from the front - I am not sure if this is still how they are. I believe they are now IRS with specailly made shocks and I thik the arms are trailing too.

no body work fit problems - slap on a nose, scuttle and rear arches - everything else is aluminium sheet although I believe the latest models - YKS use more fibre glass and have the one piece bonnet/nose cone thing.

engine wise - cross flow fits under bonnet and the chasis will take pintosauraus zetec and others, the taller engines are likely to require bulge in bonnet. wide body takes V8 with ease. gearbox is 4 speed or type nine.

They are not the most spacious but I have modified mine so I can fit - 6 ft 1 - but there is not a great deal of space in footwells - I have to wear pixy boots to drive - but that is no worse than any other standard 7. I could go on but ......
