I bought the 1st edition of Ron Champions book back when I was seriously thinking of building me a car. time went by, I got interested, lost interest again and so on. And now I'm interested in building something again (especially since a friend of mine is planning on building a mid-engine thing and I think he could help me out with the stuff I can't do myself). And I noticed that there's a 2nd edition of the book. what's been added since the 1st edition? I can't afford buying it (kinda hard to justify when you're on a tight budget...), so I was thinking that maybe someone could scan whatever has been added/changed so I could simply update my book?
a section on sva, guides are available on the web for that...
a section on going racing- not really necessary if you're only building for the road
err, anyone know of any more?

bear in mind that there are some people on here using the first edition, and also that there are still some errors and ommisions in the second
edition.
few people will have both though to know the difference! i would just get started, maybe get a donor lined up and familiarise yourself with local laws
regarding registering the vehicle when finished. there are some things in the 2nd edition that need changing, so maybe post a quesiton in the chassis
section when ur ready, or in the donor section if you have a query about the donor!

I reckon that a copy of the first edition, plus a set of McSorley plans, should be more than enough to build a car.
You'd be better off with a SVA manual than with the 2nd edition's SVA chapter...

I got both books.... 2nd is all nice and colourful.. but that fell apart and all i did was look at it few times... the 1st book is filthy and the
covers battered, but at least it's stayed in one piece !!!!
Anyway, think everyones right... 1st book plus McSorley's plans will do you fine !
Apparently there's going to be a third book which (I think) will include an IRS set up using the Sierra.
Could be worth thinking about as Escorts and Cortinas getting rare/pricey.

It would be nice with a chapter on different engine options... I've only ever seen a couple of old escorts for sale here. they're pretty rare where I live... Sierras are more common. but a list of at least 10 cars along with notes on what needs to be modified would be a very nice addition...
