My bike carbs have a bike throttle cable from the pedal. It's got a liner, but I was wondering if I should oil it.
It's got a little bit of 'sticktion'- nothing serious, but it would be better if it ran a little freer.
White grease?...
It's got fixed ends, so if it can't be dripped in from one end, it ain't going to happen!
Right or wrong I oil the bike cables, I rip the corner off a plastic bag, pass it over the nipple, tape it to the outer cable, hang it with a teaspoon of synthentic in it to drain through. In my veiw as well as lubing it keeps rust at bay.
Use to have a bike cable oiler , bit like a bike pump witha removable end cap and seal that fitted round the cable , the other end had a screw in plunger . Place over end of cable, fill with oil and pressurise to force oil through.Haven't seen it in years though
I used to have one of those! Got more oil on me than into the cable. I've also tried to make a funnel out of plasticene, which was amazingly
messy after a while!
The plastic bag trick sounds useful - might have to have a play...
It'll depend on type of cable, though it's a long time since I needed to know about such things.
If it's steel cable and steel liner then oil. If it's got plastic liner, I doubt it, but check with maker.

Get yourself to a local bike garage, they'll have a "clamp-able" steel block that has an inner feeder to the cable from the sleeve.
I'm sure a few nice words would let you have a go yourself for free if you fetched you'r own WD!

To flip this question around - what happens if you oil cables that shouldnt be oiled? All i can think of is that some cables dont need to be oiled but if you do then nothing bad will happen (maybe ptfe lined??).
If it has a nylon liner the nylon can swell up and cause the cable to get tighter.
That was one of my concerns - and why I asked the question in the first place!
