Unbelivable!

Was out and about this afternoon with the weather being so nice. The first time out since October last year. Did the old checks and set of to the petrol station. After 10min or so she was nice and warm so I thought I would have a bit of a blast. After a couple of minutes I came across a chap on lovely R1 so I thought I would chance my luck. Obviously we turned on to a private road and gave it some stick!!! up into 6th and we were shifting as you can imagine. The rider looked back to see how far back I had drop back when I saw the look on his face which was saying holy s&*t he is up my a%$e!!! There was the odd stone wizzing past my head as you could imagine but little did I know the front of my car was slowly disintergrating!!! I pull up at home and jumped out to see if I had picked up any stone chips. Well here we go! Front light smashed, front wing shatered, wind deflector shatered, leading edge of bonnet cracked and finally most of the paint on the role bar looks like it has been shot at with a machine gun along with most of the front of the car! O I almost forgot I have put two holes throught the fibre glass slats that run across the grill! So just to recap I need a new wing, bonnet, light and wind deflector and quite a bit of spraying. To say iam not happy would be an understatement!!!!!!!!!!! Iam GUTTED!!!!!

Feck - was the private road someones gravel drive? I was out yesterday and when I got home noticed a fine crack in the surface of the rear arch and I thought that was bad enough!

Gutted to hear about that mate.

Did you go for lightweight bodywork?

I know that when I was running race tyres on my road bike they would pick up a few stones...

If you had a turbo then you would have been in front.

Dont get me wrong the look on his face was priceless but its just the expence of puting it right! I also just treated my self to a Simpson Diamond back helmet which wasnt cheap. If I had known this would happen I wouldnt have bothered. The car needs taxed and insured at the end of the month aswell! All in the helmet, tax, insurance and repairing the damage I think just over a grand should cover it !!!

Are you sure the damage was caused by small stones? You weren't driving through a firing range or something? Doesn't sound like the sort of thing you'd expect to happen to your bodywork. Do you have pictures of the damage?

Iam not sure why building a CEC would make a difference to the damage caused. The only thing I can thinks is that if it was a CEC I wouldnt be able to keep up with the bike so no stone chips? I think this may start a fight.

On a straight road I'd agree with you 100% but chuck in a few twisty bits and four tyres are much better than two.

Looking at the state of the roads at the moment after the snow, it was probably large chunks of asphalt that did the damage!

The new helmet was probably a good idea!

I had a little drag 3 up against a friend on a 2002 ZX6R (private road of course. My 919 MAC1 was was spitting difference upto 80 where we both shut off.

You'd need some serious power to run with an R1 in a straight line Id have thought. I owned four of them and everyone of them at some point made me soil my pants

That would have been me just before the damage ocured. You will know the road I was on. It was the Duel carriage way going into Longniddry. If you have driven along it you will know how bad the surface is.

I used to drive on that road nearly every day for 3 years
it was in a tin-top, but you really feel the bumps in a 79' fiesta

I can't remember them ever doing more than small repairs - and I've lived round here all my life!
