whats the noise part 2
following on from my previous thread:
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=109184
had the tunnel off today, went over everything, all nice and tight (the two bolts on the prop middle bearing nipped up a little but not much), went
for a blat and still the same.
the one thing i did notcie was there was a tiny bit of play in the centre bearing in the prop and if you move it back and forth you can get a slight
nock out of it, sould this be the cause?
the prop is as a modified mk one so condition of the centre bearing is unknown.
the bearing is mounted in line with the prop, not being pulled at any angle.
please help! really want to drive the car but the noise ruins it!
Thanks

is it a two piece prop? does the prop have a bolt holding the two halves together? Worth checking

did you go out for a blat with the tunnel off? if you didn't, why not do that and see if you can see where the noise is coming from?

its a 2 piece, not bolt holding it together, just uj's
didn't have the cover off, did thing about it with the passenger side off (one side that comes off)
and get someone to keep an eye on it.
it does feel like it is coming from the bearing area though (can feel vibration on side of tunnel where its bolted)

You know when you tightened the prop adapter really tight and locked it, did i]definatly clamp it against the output shaft and not just tighten the
bolt up leaving the adapter to float?

You could try jacking the rear of the car up,and on axle stands, put some wooden blocks in front of the front wheels, then drive the car in gear,it
might make it easier to identify where its coming from.

^ ha ha,
if there's a slight play and knock in the centre bearing, i'd imagine it could make quite a curious noise when its spinning round at a few
thousand rpm

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

My prop used to make a funny noise sometimes. Sometimes it was silent. Last weekend the centre section which is/was splined gave way and now the
female section has no splines left in it at all. And just as the sunshine is coming back too.
