Le Mans '06
So whos going this year?
Have you got your tickets sorted? Have you booked through a British Company or through the ACO?
Last year we got tickets around March straight through the ACO there was only a couple of campsites available we ended up in Parking Rouge in the
camping bit, it was fine, but had to walk inside the circuit for showers and wasnt the liveliest atomoshere but was still a good laugh.
This time i have gone straight to the ACO again but sent off the email a couple of months ago, i got a letter back saying they cannot confirm the
booking as the dates and prices havent been confirmed. But they would send an letter confirming the booking when they knew the prices.
I have been reading on the Beer Mountain (which is a great site for Le Mans info) that people couldnt deal with
the hassle from the ACO and the sleepless nights waiting for tickets? What are the chance of getting into the campsite of choice and grandstand.
Entrance im not worried about as most of us are students so cant get the cheaper tickets in advance (as you need student id) but had no problem last
year getting them on the wednesday night.
The first choice campsite is Houx Annexe which i think is one of the biggest but i guess one of the first to sell out. Do i stand a chance getting on
here booking through the ACO or do you have to book through an agent who have had their tickets allocated already (It seems as most companies sold out
all the camping places months ago)
Just wondering as this year I am booking for 18 people, im sure they wont mind going back to camping rouge but would be nice to be on a proper
site.
I saw a couple of MKs last year, saw an old live axle one in the petrol station and a GT1 outside Buffalo Grill. The Indy should be going this year so
would be cool to meet up with a couple of owners.

Getting my tickets through TVRCC.
At the moment we have about 10 cars. Camping Houx, we were there last year and it was good to have electricity and marked spots. Means you can turn up
late and still know you will have a spot to set up on.
Not sure about the best way to get tickets for Annexe. I just send my cheque to whoever is organising it for us.

We booked through Just Tickets for tickets and camping and direct to Brittany ferries, saved us about a hundred quid.
I'd get it sorted ASAP, I know that Houx Annex , Camping blue, camping nord and mussee are all full.
We'll be there in three Indy's and my Locost, We'll have to make arrangements to meet up for a beer.
Cheers

Speedferries have got cute on Le Mans week - Put their prices as soon as the race dates were announced.
Still good value at £64 return though...

Is that include the car?
or is it footpassenger?
Brittany ferries portsmouth- St Malo out and Cherbourg - poole back on the sea cat was 154 quid per car.
Very convenient though.

Used Norfolk Line the year before last.
Not a bad crossing but a lot slower than the SeaCat, truckers restaurant isn't bad though...
Booked 2 ferries for Le Mans 2006 - Wednesday to Monday, one week were £50, the next had gone up to £64. Spoke to one of the call centre Doris's
and she told me that they had clocked the high demand for Le Mans and bumped up their prices...

Last year we took speedferries, £80 return and that was booked very late. Up to 4 people in a car, but we only had 2 so £40 each return isnt bad.
I know just tickets have sold out of the main campsites but you can book direct through the ACO, which normally ends up cheaper but you need to do
everything yourself and dont find out if you have the campsite you want until late. I did send off for them a few months ago and have had a letter so
will hopefully be a fair way up the queue.
If it all goes to pot we will go to parking rouge where you just pay for the camping when you arrive and didnt fill up until friday. My mate is
bringing his karting trailer along this time and its fully equiped with fridge and shower so wont be too much of a pain, just would like to have the
livelier atmosphere.
And Chris, will definately have to meet up for a few bevvies. Just hope its as nice weather as last time!
Oh and what campsite have you booked? and when did you book it? I think for '07 we will have to book it way in advance if we dont get the
tickets this time.

We're in Musse for next year after being in Karting Nord for a couple of years.
It's very near the track but we're used to that, last year the cars were coming out of the Porsche curve, under our guy ropes and up the
start finish straight.
we booked in August I think.
Where do these cheap ferries drop off/pick up/
Much cheaper than we've found.
cheers

Ah right.
The difference in driving in France, and the petrol involved probably makes quite a difference.
according to my schoolboy french atlas:-
Dunkerque - Le mans, 706 Kms
Boulogne - Le mans, 657 Kms
compared with
St malo - Le mans, 258 Kms
Cherborg - Le mans, 276 Kms
To be honest I wouldn't want to drive much further than Cherbourg AFTER the race!
Makes it worse that we've got nearly 300 miles from South Yorkshire to the south coast, It'd be too much driving.
We'll arrange for you to buy me a drink nearer the time!
Cheers

Never have stopped on the way back - leave after the race straight to Boulogne or Dunkerque, off the boat and home to sunny Essex.
Never actually done it in a '7' though

Yeah I guess having the drive from up North adds to the travelling time quite considerably. Last year it only took us about an hour and a half to get
to dover, we all enjoyed the long drive down as there was 5 cars it was a good convoy and a nice drive alot of it was off the dual carridge ways on
nice roads. We stay until monday so there was no rush to get back means you can relax sunday night and take it easy driving up the next day.
Also we were on a budget so wanted to do it as cheap as possible, although you have to pay for the extra fuel im sure it doesnt work out any more.

We did overnight portsmouth-caen last year. It was ok but I don't sleep good on ferries so even though we only had a few hundred km's to
do in france I was shattered before we started.
This year I'm going to do speedferries on the way down with the overnight in a b&b near dover or near bologne.
Afterwards I'm looking at driving to the Alps via Millau bridge (bit of a detour but just something I have to see) then back home about 10 days
later.
I have to build the car first though!!!!

We find the overnight ferry Portsmouth / St Malo ideal, we can set off at lunchtime and get to Portsmouth with about a hour to wait before getting on
the ferry, quick shower and Dinner followed by getting on the outside of some beer.
Off at 8.30 and set up in Le mans at lunch.
Coming back on Monday morning early gets us on the sea cat for 11.30 in Cherbourg and a leisurely drive home for a chinese and two days sleep.
We're stuck in our ways now.
Getting giddy already.
Cheers
