Kit Car Insurance
Hi All,
Finally got myself in the position where I can afford to start to build a kit car. But before I start I want to make sure that I can be insured.
Ideally I would like to use a Rover V8 Engine, I think they are amazing having help build and drive my mates 4.0 Litre Westfield Seight - mind Blowing
and the sound is as amazing as everyone goes on about!
I am 24 but I wouldnt expect to have the car on the road for at least another 2 years. I rang Adrian Flux and explained the situation to someone who
said that yes they would insure me but I wasn't sure if he was just telling me what I wanted to know and getting me off the phone so he could
get to the next customer.
What do you think?

Kit cars are cheaper to insure than ordinary cars. My R1 powered vortx is cheaper to insure than my Group 2E Smart ForTwo.
Phone up another kit car insurance company and ask for a quote based on your current age and address. Get a limited milage quote based the car of
your choice and see if it is too expensive. It may be a bit cheaper when you turn 25 but if it isn't too bad now then start building.

I can't see a problem providing you are over 25 which you will be by the time you finish your car. The cost of a 7 with a 2 litre engine for
over 25's is about £150 fully comp limited milage plus more for brakedown etc. I have no idea what a 3.5 litre would be but if i were you i
would phone a few more insurance companies and ask the same question. Those that will be pleased to help will be worth remembering when it's
time to get insurance.

Footman James
My Viento V8 insurance is £263 per year. 28 years old, 3 Yr NCB, comprehensive cover, 1500 miles limited mileage. £100 excess. If you plan to do more
miles, you can change it and pay the differnce.
I thought this was quite reasonable seeing as my 1.1L metro costs around £200 (with a few additional drivers)!

...depends a lot on postcode and whether it'll be garaged.
Can't speak for all on here but Footman-James were the best I could get, very understanding of kit cars.

Never used footman so I'm not on here saying there no good, but ive been with Adrian Flux all my "kit car" life, premiums have
always been low and the one time i had a claim last year it went through trouble free plus i kept the car along with the nice cheque.
