Insurance

Thought I'd spend 5 mins on the phone to an insurance company or two, seeing as have built a 200hp locost with no idea of the insurance costs!!!!!

Called Footman James, and wasn't too optimistic when they started asking whether my "locost 7" was modified????!!!

"throttle body injection" was also a bit of a mystery to them as well, but it seems that was not a major issue, quote was £270 for 3k miles fully comp agreed value.

certainly at the better end of where I thought quotes would come in!

tally ho.

Just remove the speedo drive for the track day? Or is it a pig to get to like most production cars?

Didn't think Nat was going to have any instruments anyway Not sure how not having a speedo works at SVA mind, or indeed for limited mile policies.

Re the mileage:

Totally hypothetically speaking, of course, if you have an electronic speedo wouldn't it be possible to just put an on-off switch in the wire from the sensor to the dial?

Obviously this would only apply to times when you were not on the road

Had my renewal from Footman James, £189!!
had a ring round, Sureterm direct were very competive at £164, and Footman james beat that to £148!!!
well worth spending 20 mins on the phone! engine is 2l pinto , fast road camshaft, and twin 45's , good deal I thought!!

When I insured my first special, back in the eighties, I was amazed at the low cost for what was a very hairy beast.
I asked why the charge for my 3ltr special, was less than my 1500 Maxi, and was told that most insurance companies took the line that if you built it, then you would take more care with it. Amazingly from quite a few years experience that does seem to be a true statement. Funny old life, aint it.

By the way that was with Adrian Flux, who are still insuring specials, so must make big bucks by doing it.
