Ford want to pull my pants down
After some info from you helpful chaps on or off forum
The wife has an N reg Billy bog basic Ford Escort which she doesn’t look after.
The boot lock is the only way of getting in the boot i.e. NO other boot release. The boot lock has now packed up. (The levers still operate the catch
easily) The barrel is buggered.
The key still operates the ignition for the time being but for how long as she has turned the key shaft around and around in the plastic holder.
Because we don’t have the red key Fords want £28 for a new boot lock (fair enough) £70 to reprogram the Pats (at this point I stopped listening ) +
keys + labour +vat ect ect. Well over £200 . The cars not worth much more than that
Any suggestions? Because if the mother-in-law or sister in-in law get on my case once more because they cant get there shopping in my sodding car I’m
going to do something that I may regret
Can the Pats be easily got around or if I get a lock set from a pre Pats car and stick the transponder some where close to the barrel will this
work?
Out of interest the key fob wont except a battery so how does the transponder work ??????????????????????
Thanks in advance
Edit by bassic I mean no electric toys no PAS nothing.

Hi,
If its only the barrel thats knackered ford will sell you a rebuild kit for around £15.
You get a new barrel and a pile of disc's washers etc, the discs are numbered.
Remove yours and seperate in order, then make up the new barrel based on the order of the old ones and you are away.
If Ford build up the barrel its costs £75, only takes 10 minutes......
Regards Mark

Thanks Andy thats a start. But we dont have the master Red key to reprogram the new key. We also dont have the handbook with the key number so it
would mean sending the only key we have of in the post. Which means we cant use the car. and if it gets lost we are up poo-creek.
Thanks Mark But she has about killed the only key she has for it.

have you found a local ford specialist, they should be able to do it at half ford prices. I never go to the main dealer anymore, the ex dealership
mechanics are just as good and don't have a manager breathing tagets down there back.

U can get the chip in the key cloned so you dont have to reprogram it. Alot of key cutters do it.
I take it you only have the one key? You can program a new if u have 2 others.
THe rebuild kits are available from fords for sod all money and are a piece of wee to build up.
Failing that you can pick the old chip out of the key and fit it in the new one with some superglue.
Iv done these loads of times as im a mechanic for the PO and have run escorts for years. YOu can imagine the amount of keys they go through.
P.s if you can send me a side on pick of the key blade ill try and tell you the number.
