Depressed - hate these damned cars :(

Just about sums it up. I'm on year 8 of the build. G/f is really encouraging me to work on the car, i am doing and up until about 30 minutes
ago i was loving it.
I've ripped off the back end and modified it for De-dion. Finished making the diff mounts on teh chassis (using the design from Chris's
book). Fitted the diff - boy does it look sweet.
Decided to have a play and fit the de-dion beam and ..... DOESN'T BL**DY FIT!
I've got to move the diff towards the passenger 2". I can do it, i'm just miffed. Everything takes 3 times longer than i expect.

the best bet is to sit on here with a beer
itll all com together in the end and the you'll wonder what you were stressed about

The thing that bugs me is the way that you either have to do everything simultaneously or be very good at planning and thinking ahead. I've
discovered that neither or these are my strong points but when it comes to making or fitting something that means that something else will no longer
fit or work I've become a real expert!
Edited to add: If anyone has any expert opinions, my current dilemma is "which do I really need - an exhaust manifold or a cooling
system?"

Well you've made me feel better. Im just starting year 4, with winters off for some reason, and was down about it until now
I think its planning ahead. Keep putting to together and taking it apart again and not using nylocks!If you are like me with no former practical
experience it is hard work thereis no doubt about it.
Walk away from it, kick someone elses cat and then go back again.

It took me 3 months to sort a mistake I made with the rear suspension.
All caused by my daft early decision to build a non-standard dimensioned chassis.
Don't despair.... it's worth it in the end!

The highs are high and the lows are low.
I've had loads of set backs due to the fact I bought a half finished project on the advice of a so called expert and many times I've
nearly packed it in. Even now I can't get my 2.0 rebuilt Pinto running right despite having been on a rolling road. I find the biggest problem
is sourcing the right bits takes ages and you're often held up just because you don't have the right bolt or piece of scrap steel.
Best advice is do something else for a bit (I normally whack out my guitars and jam some Thin Lizzy or ACDC) and then come back renewed after a few
days.
But when you are out and about in the sunshine it's all worth while believe it.
I used to be apathetic but now I just don't care.

i know how ya feel MikeR it must be part of the locost course, i just hate starting something then not having every piece/part, and have to wait
another week, the lows will come but im sure the highs out weigh them in the end
at least your supported fully by the other half, thats fantastic

I took your advise last time and ended up Pi**ed as a fart, falling asleep on the sofa!!  It just took me even longer to sort the problem i had
earlier!

I know how you feel - i'm on about year 6/7 now (lost count) but there's been like whole years where i haven't done much for various
reasons (movng house, work etc). Now me and my partner have just bought our first property together and it's a real project - so i'll be
off the car for another year or so
I just know it's close to being finished and one day it will be (no really, it will), then i can enjoy it! I kind of dont mind it having taken
this long as i've changed my mind about various things and have been able to do a good job of evberything and make it just how i want it rather
than rush to get it finished.
Yours too will be finished one day and it will all be worth it!

Just to check, you do have the driveshafts on the correct sides don't you?

If misery loves company, then we're all doing just fine! I'm only in my second year, but things are moving along. 3 steps forward, 2 back.
Just like that ridiculous little dance they do in a part of Luxembourg every year... Well, this is our tradition.

Driveshafts, driveshafts ..... don't get me started on the blooming drive shafts!!!!! They're no where near being fitted. I've got
to disassemble them but before i do i've got to find somewhere to supply me with the metal cans (push in joints). Last time i checked it was

I'm on year 9.
I have been though the, "I hate it" part, but to me its now a stress reliever after work or at weekends.
Still enjoying it, even things that are taxing like making screen pillars that took about 2 months to do as mine are 5mm plate and cant bend so they
are cut and welded after twisting.
Just think you get to stand back at the end and chat with the admirers and say, "I built that and I made that"
