Camera mount

Hi Guys,

Do any of you knowledgeable chaps have any advice on how to attach a video camera to my roll bar in a way that would be acceptable for a track day?

My mate is supplying the camera so I don't know what model it is so I guess I would be looking for something universal. Looked on ebay but I am not sure really what is good and not so good.

Even better if anyone has any locost ideas...

Cheers.

There's normally loads of the GoPro roll bar mounts on eBay for about £30, but I mounted my camera using a flat ali plate about 4" x 2" with a hole in the centre to take a 1/4UNC tripod bolt, and clamped this plate to the rollbar using two jubilee clips. I undid the jubilees and put some heatshrink over the bit that would contact the roll bar to prevent scratching, and stuck a bit of foam rubber to the back of the plate.

Ed.

Like Ed, I've got a sheet of ally with a camera mount bolt through, but it's clamped to the rollbar with exhaust clamps like these: -

A bit of rubber protects the coating of the rollbar itself.

Exhaust clams are good as are jubilee clips but I use a Manfrotto clamp, easy and quick to fit and position and I hang 2 kilowatt Blondes (tungsten studio lights) that weigh several Kg over people's heads with them.

A simple wire cable is used to lock it on or cable ties on both clamp and camera

Scrutineers have always insisted that there is two seperate fixings at our tracks so that if one fails the camera will not flail about and smack you on the head. I have always got away with cable ties as the secondary fixing in the past.

I always thought camera screws were quarter whitworth not UNC anyone know for sure?

Camera mounting holes are 1/4 whitworth.
Another +1 for the Manfrotto. I use a short luggage strap for a secondary fixing.
