It was probably to do with who had the best propellor. It's all about matching the prop to the speed and power of the engine output. If the prop is too small it can't transmit the power.

I presume with these programmes that it is already decided what line each team is going to take, and then the scrapyard is 'seeded' with suitable power units that somebody has already made sure work?

Like, would you really expect to find surfboards and propellors in the average scrapyard?

Still a good programme though.
