Tyre Advice
alexbradley555 - 22/2/17 at 12:02 PM

Hi all,

I'm currently running the following:

Front: 185 60 13 - 7J 4x108 ET35
Rear: 205 60 13 - 7J 4x108 ET35

I'm looking for some road wheels - not fussed regarding performance to use ASAP and I'll keep the above set for track days.

a) what's the benefit of having skinnier tyres on the front - does this aid nimble handling?

b) would a 205 45 15 - 6.5J 4x108 ET38 ALL ROUND fit just fine?

Thanks a lot.

Generally speaking, the wider the tyre, the more mechanical grip you introduce.
This will also have the effect of slower response.

In regards to the difference between 185 and 205 on the front, i haven't had both so couldn't tell you but sure plenty on here will be able to.

I actually ran 185 all round on 13s and found the handling superb, that was on R888 which will always be my recommendation for tyres road or track

I have been around the houses with my rim tyre changes. I have gone back to 185's on 6j x 13 RS wheels, Find it more predictable and comfortable.

thanks a lot guys, sounds like it doesn't really matter too much seeing as it's road use.

I was more concerned with the variation in ET35 to ET38.

Road use 185 is just fine
3mm ET difference will only push the outer rim 3mm further out from the body, no big issue

bear in mind the OP is suggesting going from:

7J ET38

to

6.5J ET35

So not as straight forward as 3mm difference, but i'm not clever enough to do the calcs!

Have a play on here:
