Has anyone got any hints and tips when deciding on wheels, like weight, make and and good/bad experiences with certain wheels/ manufacturers? Best place to buy?

I'm looking at getting some Momo GTR Ltd Editions for my MK Indy. I'm aware of the offsets and stuff like that. My question is why are Momo wheel dealers so hard to find (in the UK), and are they expensive because of the name or quality, or both?

Someone told me Momo wheels crack, pit and bend???

Im staying out of the wheel size argument though. Im just going to say, 13" wheels will give the best grip/handling with 15" being close. Go for 17" if you have a death wish or like bling.

If you want to save lots of weight on wheels, look into Superlite wheels.

Billet and magnesium alloy wheels are around 3.5kg per corner + tyres. Huge weight savings over normal wheels. But come at a cost (Around £190/corner for billet).

A fantastic cheap tyre at the moment that I'm using in the L7club sprints is the Scudo Stunner! Reckon it's almost as soft as my SS A032r's and they're only about £40 a corner fitted! Available in 15 and 16".
I'd look on e-bay for wheels too.....Dunno what the offset for an MK Indy would be, but reckon a set of 13" Mike Barmby magnesium alloys would sell for around £4-500..they are extremely light and good quality.

It's an absolute nightmare trying to decide which wheels to choose, theres just soooo much choice. 17's look really cool but give you too much choice IMO. Drop down to 15's and the choice is limited further. Go for lightweight 15's and the choice is even less. Then decide which of the three are best and take a bank loan out to buy them....................

OZ Superleggera all the way!! Lightest cheap mass market wheel available I reckon. Only 4.9kg each for a cast alloy 15"x7".

Beware of some of these superlights and minilite style wheels. Only the expensive exotic material/construction ones are actually particularly light, and then that's cos they're 13s as opposed to 15s.

I went for caterham 13" alloys. <4kg a corner and not expensive!

You may find that momo alloys are mass market heavy stuff designed for the corsa brigade. I had GT2's on my FTO, looked great but weighed an obscene amount, absolutely destroyed the handling.

I opted for ATS DTC's. Used on the new Westfield's. About as light as you can get for the money, cant remember the spec off hand but made a difference to the car's feel.

Mac#1 did me a cracking deal, i cant publish the price as it followed me helping them with the fire but they are worth calling to ask about them.

There's only one answer to this question - 13" Compomotive CXRs!
