Age of Locosters
Carl.H - 31/1/04 at 05:11 PM

I’ve been getting a bit of jip from the lads at work about how all kit car enthusiasts are “boring old blokes”.
Just like to emphasise that I disagree with this completely, I think the fact that we’re building (or thinking of building a car) proves we’re all interesting if maybe slightly mad.

I’m 19

GO - 31/1/04 at 05:20 PM

I put 19-25 cos thats wot I was when I started!!

Great, 26 and already denying my age!

200mph - 31/1/04 at 05:25 PM

I got all my tools for my 21st birthday.

It was that or a kilt

bob - 31/1/04 at 06:41 PM

Mk-Ninja - 31/1/04 at 07:04 PM

steve

ps peteff - you fur looks good for its age

TheGecko - 1/2/04 at 07:45 AM

Hmmm,

I can put 35-39 for another 182 days...

And I always said the car would be on the road by the time I was 40.. Hah! It might (only just) be on it's wheels at least by then.

Dominic

MikeR - 1/2/04 at 10:30 AM

Humph, why can't the group be 26 to 30!!!

I don't want to be in the 30 to 35 group

I'm not old I tell you!!!!!

pbura - 1/2/04 at 02:21 PM

51, dammit!

Glad to see a lot of young builders in the UK. Not so many in the US, which is surprising because the Locost is largely a net phenomenon.

Actually, I'm glad that not everybody and their brothers are building these cars. There's a guy with a near-complete car about 50 miles away and another wannabe 30 miles the other way and that's it!

Spyderman - 1/2/04 at 02:43 PM

At the moment the majority are in the 19-25 catagory, with us middle age gits coming second.

It looks like the young pups (19-25) are busy trying to impress the birds with a sports car!
I guess all the 26 - 39 lot must be bussy procreating.
Then when you're past all that you turn to other hobbies to get you out of the way!

Wonder what happens at 45 to cause the drop off in numbers? Kids leaving home, so increase in available funds to buy instead of build a car?

Terry

Alan B - 1/2/04 at 03:01 PM

Easy answer....IMO....most guys at 45 would consider themselves too old to be building a sports car (or even owning one)

We, on the forum, don't count of course because we are crazy..

Possibly...

Still have a full nest here (started late) and no cash Retirement plans are loosely based on a cardboard box under a bridge

Then again, they could be dying

JoelP - 1/2/04 at 04:46 PM

i think there are loads of 19-25 cos, for me at least, you go thru the boy racer phase in normal cars then want something faster! that was my plan anyway, before i found the book i was gonna use a supra turbo as a donor!

Carl.H - 1/2/04 at 05:54 PM

I opted out of the boy racer stage, decided instead of spending money on a flawed design (Fiesta, Nova, est..)
I’d start off with something with a bit more potential

Sparky - 1/2/04 at 07:30 PM

Well, I was 34 when I started, but I'll be honest and poll my real age!

How do you spell 'denial'!!

Graceland - 1/2/04 at 07:35 PM

i'm 20 now, but will be 21 by the timei'm done

David Jenkins - 1/2/04 at 08:40 PM

51 - but I haven't yet decided what I want to be when I grow up...

Why build a Locost? Always wanted a 7, but couldn't afford it. Bored with most modern cars, and don't trust myself on a motorbike (not quite true - don't trust other drivers when I'm on a bike)

David

Metal Hippy - 1/2/04 at 08:43 PM

I'd change the age groups and group 40+ together into one 'old fart' group.

Cheers.

The young sod.

David Jenkins - 1/2/04 at 08:52 PM

In t' good old days of TOL, when there was a good row going on, I got nominated as chairman of the BBOF* society. I accepted the nomination with profuse thanks...

...us BBOFs then gleefully reminded the young whipper-snapper about who paid the lowest insurance premiums on grossly overpowered little sports cars.

JoelP - 1/2/04 at 08:59 PM

Metal Hippy - 1/2/04 at 09:00 PM

BLHBF me

DavidM - 1/2/04 at 09:39 PM

40 when I started, 44 in May.

I'm making mine out of Lycra and with a high waistband so I'll still fit in it when it's finished.

flyingkiwi - 1/2/04 at 11:34 PM

26 in actual age, going on 80 in looks thanks to this stupid idea of a car

blueshift - 2/2/04 at 02:32 AM

24, suppose I have some boy racer mentality, but more taste than to buy a saxo/nova.. That and a healthy love of gran turismo, finding out how things work and getting my hands oily.. I think you can all see what that's a recipie for..
