Is anyone clued up on current road tax?

Question is, if i was to buy a Japanese import pajero/shogun , would i have to pay road tax based on its date of manufacture or its date of registration in this country.

As I understand it, when you import and register a vehicle, you will end up with an appropriate registration pertaining to the year of the vehicles manufacture. I assume that the answer is the vehicle manufacture date will be the date used from a vehicle taxation perspective.

All I can find is the proportional tax is relavent to vehicles registered after March 31 2001, doesn't specify 'in the UK'

It wil be on relevant year i.e. year of manufacture. Same for a yank wagon, etc

Kind of hoped that would be the case.
