Oh Please big goverment, protect us all from ourselves!!
The idiots in New Mexico just passed a bill to put breathalyzers in every car!
No,
Not in the cars of past offenders. Not in the cars of parollees.
Every car, bus, taxi, dump truck. regardless of age or description....you name it..

Calgon take me away!!!
Liberal idiots!!!
O.k I feel better now....
...here it comes again...IMPEACH ACTIVIST JUDGES!!!...
O.K all better....really, ...I think I'm o.k. now....Wow, sorry about that guys...
QUICK GO TELL MANDELA HE WILL SORT THAT PROBLEM OUT....... LIKE HE DOES WITH EVERYONE ELSE
IN HIS OWN WORDS .......AMERICA IS DRUNK WITH ITS OWN POWER
is it such a bad idea? we accept that we all have to have seatbelts and have to wear them. what are the arguments for not having breathalysers in
cars.. do you defend your right to drive while under the influence?
I'm not saying it's definitely the right thing to make law.. maybe it could just be encouraged by a tax or insurance change, but it
doesn't seem a super-bad thing. all the new legislation about making cars pedestrian-impact-friendly and generally squishy is more dubious imo.
Well i guess you ranting was because you drink and drive ?!?!?! If you didn't, then whats the big fuss about ?
Its stupid to drink and drive, so anything to stop the mindless idiots from driving while under the influence gets the thumbs up from me !
TheKafer,
Who pays for them? And when do you have to use them?
Are they linked into the immobiliser so the car won't start if you're over the limit? Just curious for more detail really.
Cheers,
Jim
P.S. Ben, Are you in favour of speed limiters being fitted to your car? A little transmitter at beginning of each road would tell your limiter how
fast the car was allowed on that bit of road- easy.
I'd say there's absolutely no excuse for driving while pissed (that's drunk).
I think the campaign in the UK to make it socially unacceptable has largely worked, especially on my generation I think.
I expect it's and even bigger problem in the states with the love of the car and lack of locals.
It still bewilders me that wearing a seatbelt isn't compulsory but airbags in a car are.
I'd like to say leave it up to people and their common sense but it simply doesn't work, there are too many died in the wool morons out
there who simply don't care.
Its a strange country, they banned saccarin because it is dangerous, but will sell a 9mm automatic to any 18 year old from the hood that wants one. You don't have to wear a seatbelt, but you will be shot on sight if you drive with your arm resting on the top of the door as you drive.

That wouldnt happen mate. The Government would lose too much revenue.....![]()
. They could even help you by setting up a direct debit for you.
Seatbelts in the US....
Where does this "you don't have to wear them" notion come from?
In Florida and all other states I've visited recently you certainly do.....
Not saying there aren't any states that don't...but I do know of many that do....
Breathalizer....
Agreed...drink driving is bad..it should be punished VERY heavily, but compulsary breathalizers in every car...crazy
How long before they are by-passed?..or sober friend breathes in it?...or even bellows to blow air in it?......nope can't see it working at all
IMO...
21 years of age to buy a handgun legally. If you wanna bring illegal sales then i'll bet I could in the course of one day, buy at least four
ILLEGAL handguns on the streets of London.
Guns are no more dangerous than any other inanimate object. You can just as easily walk into a schoolyard with an axe and start hacking away.
WE believe in the right to defend ourselves and our property. I just Saturday attended and completed a one day course which will allow me to carry a
handgun in my home state and the 19 other states that honor my state's carry permits.
I can't make sense of the arm on the door bit. Sounds like foolish rambling to me.
I agree the saccarine ban was stupid.
If you want a fairly good picture of why America is the way it is, Google the US Constitution and read it through. We were forced to seperate
ourselves from an overly opressive government just over 2 centuries ago, and it seems that same government insists on keeping the pressure on those
still within it's grasp. Everytime I see one of you guys post pics of a destroyed speedcam, I can't help but think about our Revolutionary
War.
We are a nation of armed citizens so that oppression will never ever happen again.
Upon thinking about this post I thought that I might mention, that even though I went off a bit here, no offense was intended, I just feel very
strongly about the freedoms we have earned in this country.

I seem to remember that On Wednesday 13th March, 1996, in the Scottish town of Dublane, Thomas Hamilton - a lonely man with a grudge - walked into a
primary school and shot down a class of children before turning the gun on himself
The British government then banned hand guns.
We watch TV and see this sort of event happing several times a year in the USA
Q.E.D baby
darwin would have something to say about this thread for sure, starting on drink driving and mutating to the american constitution!
i aint big on history, but talk of 'oppressive governments' is common nowadays, allegations can be made all round depending on which side of
the field you sit on. im in the stands myself.
Watch Bowling for Columbine....
America has about 12,000 gun related deaths a year, Canada has only 180!!

Britain has about 65.
What is so different in America that they should have 60 times more gun related deaths than their closest neighbor? Who has similar gun laws.
Now theres something to get you thinking
Cheers
Ok so we have speed cams. You have a government that seems quite happy to ignore the basic rights that your constitution (something that we lack and
want I might add) gives to people.
The very freedoms you are so protective of are being eroded based on the threat of an unseen enemy.
As for being oppressed, I really don't think we are. OK, our government doesn't seem to want to listen to it's people much, but rather
likes to be lead astray by a certain dubya.
At least our head muppet was elected (although it gives us less of a leg to stand on when we complain)
I don't want this to come across as anti American, I'm not, I just worry a bit, admittedly based of what I've read/seen etc rather than
experienced that your society it quite poorly, either through mass fear of whatever or a blissful ignorance of what is actually going on.
And back to the original point, breathalisers in cars are a silly idea and most likely easily bypassed. HEAVY penalties will do a much better job of
stopping people. But then there's the problem of already overcrowded prisons and an overworked legal system that doesn't really work. A
shake up is required I think.
bring back hard labour i say.

joel did you get a new load of smileys per chance
Shootist (Now we see were the handle comes from
)
Just because you have the right (or wrong, depends what way you view that part of the constitution). Why do you feel the need to carry a gun through
20 states?
How many of those people killed in the US are killed by accident? If you didn't feel the need to carry a gun, 'just because' (Which BTW
is the type of argument my 3 year old gives), then these deaths would be cut by at least the amount of accidents.
As for killing someone with an axe, that takes strength and to some extent guts.
Killing someone with a gun can be done at a distance and with the squeeze of one finger.
Just my 2c (BTW the oppresive government??? So are you pro slaving too, because lets face it that was the biggest bug bear at the time, and the
oppresive government wanted to stop slaving)

i though id hidden them well... do i put 2p worth in or not ??
yup, just a little one..........
i argue with geezer living next door, it gets out of hand, he thumps me, i thump him, be both have bloody noses, 2 days later we laugh about it.
i argue with geezer living next door, it gets out of hand, he shoots me, i shoot him, 2 days later they cremate us both.
i'll settle for a bloody nose, i'm sure IMHO a huge majority of deaths/gun crimes in the states are spare of the moment anger things, if
guns where not readily available then it would.nt happen.
I don't live there, i respect the country the above is just a personal opinion.
Jon, I'd say you are right....bullet holes don't heal as well as bloody nose for sure...
I think it is inevitable that more guns WILL mean more deaths...I think the procedure here should make obtaining guns MUCH more difficult....
Everyone...
A lot of the other UK v US arguements are easier to understand when you have lived in both places a reasonable time..I've lived here almost 10
years....and I can see most things from both viewpoints....
Many things here are EXACTLY as depicted on TV/movies etc., but many are NOT.....another thing is that this country is sooooooooo HUGE...really like
many countries in one.....different areas differ a lot in terms of crime and so on...
Just trying to restore some balance....when it comes down to it the typical average American is very similar to his UK counterpart...

...or anything! Restrict
what is classed as arms then problem solved...not easy i know! I think the American mind set is different to the Canadian’s, if you look at the type of guns they have Canadians have more rifles and the like for
hunting animals.
Where as the Americans have more hand, automatic guns for defence (killing humans).
I agree with flak monkey watch Bowling for Columbine or at least download ‘a brief history of America’ off Kazaa it’s a short cartoon from the
film.
I’d just like to add I’m not anti American
But defiantly anti
Bush, the thick skulled, short minded, waste of oxygen
two things.
1, that cartoon from B4c is hillarious. was it actually in a south park or what?
2. bush was right (IMHO) about iraq, but it doesnt change the fact hes daft. iq below 100 aint a good thing in a president.
I seem to remember some statistic about people having handguns in their homes in america "for defense of person and property" or whatever.
something like 70% of the time the householders end up shot with their own gun, also lots of kids getting hold of them and blowing their sister /
themselves away, and under 10% of the time they actually get used to shoot an intruder. And then you go to prison for murder.
I think it's related to the whole government-encouraged "culture of fear" thing they've got going on in the USA, get everyone
scared of black people, drug addicts, etc etc, pump out more shows like COPS, makes everyone subservient and afraid and takes their attention off the
fact the government is in bed with the big corporations and bleeping over the guy on the street, the environment, the economy.. etc etc..
It just kinda caught me in a poor mood.
I'm gonna let this one die after just 2 more comments.
#1 Syd, Uzis are fully auto weapons which have been all but banned since the National Firearms Act of 1934, and since Uzis were not made back then,
most likely you saw a semi auto Uzi. A semi auto Uzi is nothing more than an overpriced 9mm pistol. Fullauto gun may be purchased under the NFA but a
heafty fee is paid along with an extensive background check which may take 3 months or more.
A legally obtained NFA weapon has never been proven to be used in a crime.
#2 London Metro Police report some 5,000 gun related crimes in 2003-03
Oh, and I didn't get my permit to carry a gun around like John Wayne (The Shootist handle come from his movie of the same name, because we share
a birthday). I enjoy participating in shooting sports, just as I'm sure many of you like to play darts at the local pub. Not that I want to
engage in any stereotyping.

Not to mention many of those semi’s are easily converted to full automatics
I have never driven pissed! I drive a 65 volkswagen microbus so even going over the speed limit is highly unlikely. I think seat belts were a great
idea.(not manditory in my 65 bus so I added them).
But when a goverment thinks it needs to make everyone blow into a tube to start their car because it does such crappy job of enforcing the laws and
penalties for the few people that do drive pissed, thats just stupid! Why not put everyone on parole just in case?!? My rant was based on another
freedom lost for all by a law aimed at a few.....just my opinion
...
In his painfully bad book "Dude,Wheres my country?" Mr Moores first choice for a presidential candidate was Oprah Winfrey.
His third was Wesley Clark....(dear god)
Oh,..everybody listening to "Mike-L-More"alright! sorry starting to rant again
All in good fun guys! fletch.
just changing the subject, but in some places in stoke on trent, there is a curfew 4 pll aged 15 and under from 9pm till 6am in the morrning this will
contineue 4 another 3 months, and if u r out at that time they will arrest u or escort u home, and reportably all this (over 2000 kids affected) cus
of 12, and i said again 12 kids
