Mr Whippy - 27/8/09 at 12:44 PM

is the back made from plywood?

blakep82 - 27/8/09 at 01:00 PM

soften up the back a bit, don't claim its a gt40 and it could be a bit better

blakep82 - 27/8/09 at 01:08 PM

doesn't look so bad from the side

mookaloid - 27/8/09 at 01:09 PM

Bet that never passed an SVA either

Richard Quinn - 27/8/09 at 01:38 PM

Looks a little tall for 40" too

I just don't get it.

Do people who make these replicas not take a look at the original car or do they just do it from memory??

It's like the TR7 / F40 Ferrari or the Fiero / Enzo horrors that crop up now and again on ebay.

Why, oh why oh why.

I love the shape of the GT40 and would love to build an accurate replica, and no doubt the owner has put a lot of time, effort and pride into it, but honestly, spend a little more on a proper kit in the first place and the end result will be worth so much more.

P.S.

has to be said though, even if its ugly the build quality looks very good

zilspeed - 27/8/09 at 04:16 PM

You know,

It looks very little like a GT40 and probably goes even less like one.

But it reminds me of an era when a man in a shed decided to build something from phuque all.
Everybody probably told him he couldn't do it / it would never work.

But he didn't care, he had his shed, a handfull of crap tools and a half baked idea. At that point he just got on with it.

To me, he's a hero.
He's the type of bloke I look up to.

Much more than these why buy success / street cred / peer acceptance.

Having said all of that, he's having a laugh with his price.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

That's exactly what I plan to do when I sell my Indy (sraight after I get it registered ).

I shall hang a union flag in my garage and do the very Brtitish thing of building a steel ladder to which I should nail and engine, a seat and some wheels.

I shall then call it a single seater, paint it BRG and go hillclimbing

I bet a lot of other chassis have had totaly new hand made bodys fitted.

Yep good for him to have the bottle to try it, rather than spend thousands on some bad kit which were made in the 70s & 80s.
