I needed some glass cutting for a window in my house, 8 small panes in a large frame. 6 are the same size, 2 smaller.
Being an engineer I measured them all and got the figures. my wife then rang round and got some quotes, then placed an order with a local company. As
they don't trust customer supplied dimensions they send a man out to measure themselves.
Visit 1: then go to my neighbours house, who just happens to want some glass too, but surprised him none the less as he had not rung anyone to come
out for a quote
Visit 2: They come out to measure. I wasn't there but my wife says they took several attempts at getting the right dimension.
Visit 3: They deliver the glass.
Cue me trynig to fit the glass. 2 smaller panes fit fine. 6 larger ones are too large.
Phone call went along the lines of the receptionist blaming the cutter (the boss) who blamed the lad with the tape.
They then asked if we would mind telling them the correct sizes and they will cut to MY dimensions.
Turned up this afternoon. So I will update the thread later to see if my dimns are correct. Which if they had used in the first place would have saved
them some petrol, time and 6 panes of glass.
Just to explain why they got it wrong, they measured the aperture from inside one frame to the inside of the next frame, ie they are the thickness of the frame out. Easily done, but surely a schoolboy error that the professionals do once, and never again.

err, maybe I didn't explain myself well.
imagine 2 open frames side by side, they measure from the left face of the left frame to the left frame of the right frame, so they measured one frame
opening plus the thickness of the frame between them.
I don't think that makes any more sense does it?
never mind, all in and fitted now, and yes the company boss is going to make the other bloke feel like a right burk
