cops in edinburgh
A1 - 8/9/09 at 09:00 AM

for anyone concerned - theres loads of cops around edinburgh right now, watch out on queensferry road esp. coming into town, they sit in the petrol stations and catch people with no belts or on the phone. theres lots hiding up side roads too, so watch out! theyre also stopping folk for things like noise. (my friend was stopped in his impreza with the standard prodrive exhaust )

noticed one on a bike overtaking all the traffic going up the chevrons in the middle of the road... like to see them let anybody else off with it.

Don't have any problem with people being pulled and ticketed for phones (and to a lesser extent belts).

Do they have a sound gun for the noise or are they just guessing?

But on the whole it sounds like they need to get their annual figures up so the brass get their bonuses.

I got pulled over once for a loud exhaust, actually the back box had fallen off my last bluebird and the cop (only one in the car) said it wasn’t legal. I told him he didn’t know what he was talking about and I only legally needed one silencer on the car anyway and since there was a mid box it was perfectly legal

He then claimed he pulled any boy racer over who had a loud exhaust, which I explained he shouldn’t as they had twice the number of silencers that are required for an MOT. At that point he gave up and got back in the car. That’s the only time I’ve got the better of them

where is the hole ?

I might still have 95% of the old one (I'd have to check though, I've been having a big clearout)

its at the front of the back box, welded on extra plate but now i think that has deformed the coupling, was looking into just welding the 2 parts together..

Doesn't matter if you have 5 back boxes, one or none - if it was noise he pulled you up for (as you said), then it's noise! The number of silencers is irrelevant.

Clearly he was just a pup then who hadn't grown his cojones... had he been a proper Cop, a Cop this nation should be proud to have, a Cop for our times, then he should have called in the Traffic guys to go over your car with a fine-tooth-comb and had them ram you with everything they could find just for being a smart-arse!

Or he could have just got back in his car and doddled off as he had better things to do than argue with a madman driving a Bluebird!

the bit I've got won't be much use to you then - its rotten at the same bit

if youre going to quote me 02gf74, make sure its what i actually put, yea?

I dont have a problem with them catching people on the phone or without belts, buut, they do it at rush hour when theres queues, so theyre stopped... plus, any extra cop presence is a bad thing, unless its on the beat in town, catching pickpockets etc, but that would require work so they go sit in petrol stations...

Normally police really irritate me as they seem to pull people in order to generate cash (but usually under the guise of public safety!), however recently there's been a crime spate near me and the police are nowhere to be found!!! Too busy sitting in lay-by's to stop more serious crimes!
