I have a freelander i want to sell, and the best sales pitch i know is on the road outside my house with a for sale sign on (have sold 3 seperate cars there within a few days). Trouble is the car has no tax, i sthere any way of leaving a car parked on a road without tax, or failing that a way of taxing it without having to insure (i will not drive it) the damn thing!

dont think so mate, unless it is on a trailer perhaps?

or just put a police aware sticker on the front, probably not the best way to advertise a car though.

edit- just a thought the trailer idea may work but its a theifs dream!!

Must be taxed if it's on the public highway.

Take out insurance, tax the car, then cancel the insurance within the two-week cooling off period.

Edit: BTW, you are not allowed to leave a trailer on the road unless it is attached to a taxed, insured car.

Edit2: Of course, it also needs to be insured to be on the road. My brain was only engaged to answering the question of buying tax without buying a year's insurance.

No, it has to be taxed and insured to park on the highway. Otherwise it could just get carted away by the authorities.
It's also illegal to sell cars by parking them on the roadlike that unless it's a private sale. Selling 4 cars that way within a few days and you might be considered a trader.

Why does it have to be insured to park on the road??

Realisitically i live in a small town/village where i suspect half the farmers and locals don't have tax on the vehicles they drive, and have never had any of the other 3 cars i have sold insured at the time they were parked on the road for sale

It's a legal requirement for a vehicle to be taxed tested and insured to be on the public highway. If you want to display it without then go ahead but if caught it's your car they will crush .

Only way is to insure and then cancel the policy once sold.

...or could you add the vehicle to another existing policy for a month?

I wouldn't, you're risking a lot of grief. Somehow we've got to pay for the greed frenzy over the past years, Gordon will extract the cash from you if he finds your car on the highway without sound documentation.

If it were me, I'd take out an installment insurance policy until sold. A Freeloader isn't worth much these days, but nonetheless, must be worth insuring to sell it.

If you break it, first refusal on the differential please.

I think the trailer is the best plan. Just hook it up to your motor and job done.

Use a big chain though as otherwise someone will be off with both the freelander and the trailer!
