Hi Chaps

My son needs to start to control his newly forming 'manly' whiskers and so I need to get him a razor. I figured that for the first few years these new fangled modern electric razors are pretty good now. Is this true? Being a wet shaver myself I have no experience with these.

Should he go foil or rotating heads?

So, can you recommend me a razor (sensible budget) and a place to buy one from which represents the best value for money?

get a philips rotary. 14 quid and two aa batts.
The three rotary head is good as well foils are a bit softer and dont last as long.

teach him to wet shave, learning not to draw blood is part of growing up.

I only cut myself these days when I am thinking about it ( cant only be me !! )

If I shave at 6am in the morning ( while I am still technically asleep - before the first cuppa ) fine. 6 pm If I am going out bloodbath !!!!

Joking apart - good on you for showing an interest... my Dad never showed me how to shave. I just experimented with a razor and got into the habit of going against the grain. That was fine when it was just bum-fluff, but I swear it was the start of my shaving misery. As my growth got thicker the hairs started growing in all different directions and patches would become inflamed with daily shaving resulting in in-grown hairs... and so the cycle continued!

Not good when you have a REALLY heavy growth!

Used to bloody hate shaving... especially on cold days! Now that I don't have to, I probably drag a blade across (parts of) my face once a week which is bearable!

PS - I could never use an electric shaver... they just 'ate' my face and would draw more blood than a razor.

Rechargable Braun foil for day to day, it can be washed under the tap.
Then wet shave for weekends.

The rotary Philips shavers beat the Braun foil type hands down IME. Personally I'll never go back to wet shaving, though it is more of a "manly" thing to do when you start shaving I reckon.

Definitely go for a full size three head rechargeable type. I have a twin head Philips AA battery shaver I take on holiday and it's just too weedy for an everyday shaver IMO, it makes hard work of even my fairly modest facial hair.

I've never tried the expensive fully waterproof type that you can use in the shower, sounds a bit too girly for me
