Traffic Surveys

Anyone know what traffic survey people do other than falling a sleep or sit around drinking tea on warm days?

Tick survey boxes??

spill their tea when you blast your horn as you pass them.

Are these the people by the side of the road?

Not the ones where they cordon off a section of road and stop every other car before asking stupid questions about transport.

There was one near me, they were stopping and asking drivers why they didn't take public transport. Fair enough. Except they had a copper ordering people to stop. Now unless I'm mistaken it's a criminal offence not to stop when ordered to do so by the rozzers. But then surely it's a flaggant abuse of power if they then say "could you possibly answer some questions for these people from TransportForLondon about buses"..... Another little bit of respect for the police evaporates. I'm sure the local head of police got a nice little bung from TFL though....

^^ that's what they were doing on the A40.. Fortunately I was on a bus, guess they would not stop a coach load!!

They normally count the number and types of vehicles on a particular route over time - often to inform a model for a new development (swmbo's a transport planner and orders this kind of stuff). They're normally students or retired people doing the counting...

The other ones, stopping you to ask which postcode you're going from and to are the local authority gauging just where all the cars in their areas come from - they annoy me - the last one I got stopped at had 3 polica traffic cars, which could all have been doing something much more useful! *that* is the kind of thing they could be using CSOs for....

I got stopped in one of those traffic survey thingy's on my way to work , when I was nearly late
All I would say was `sorry , no time for all this rubbish - I need to be at work five minutes ago' to every question
It gave me a lot of satisfaction smoking the tyres as I left , and hitting the rev limiter in every gear up the road................I may have upset a few plod's in doing so , but I never heard anything from them

The plod doing the census stops will be doing it "on their own time" for extra cash.... so are not being taken away from standard duties....

If they're wearing their uniform I don't give a shite if they're paying for the privelage, they're still stopping me when they have no right to

In Warrington they get paid to make sure that the traffic amassing measures are working (seriously when you get people in Manchester saying they won't come to Warrington because of the traffic something's going wrong)
