HPC=High Performance Caterham?

I think it was named after the High Performance Club. A sort of gentlemans driving club set up in the 60's.

Might not be though

Stands for "High Performance Course" - The purchase of the car came with a high performance driving course so that buyers dint go out and get into trouble.

First HPC was a 1600 BD- then a 1700 BD- whatever the derivative of the BDA range was at the time. Then it got softened with the XE.
Then you had the Ultimate HPC the JPE - Jonathan Palmer Evolution
