Mate is looking for a Mk 2 Mazda MX 5 1.8

I've taken him out in the Westy but He say's its abit "Raw for Everyday use..."


Does Anybody have any experience
of the MX 5 ?

What goes wrong & What falls off etc

Had a quick look and they seem pretty good to be honest
But Any advice would be appreciated

I had one and it was the best car I've had. best to go for a post 2001 model as the had a facelift and extra power.

I never had a problem at all. Fab cars!

AFAIK, the main issue is body rot around the A pillar - not that they're particularly prone to it - just something to watch.

My daughter has just bought one, It's a '99 1800cc lovely car, i have to admit thas a daily driver I'm a bit jealous .

The biggest problem I found while looking for one was rust, I didn't expect that. We were looking at externally nice and not cheep cars and found rust in the Ft chassis rails, sills, boot lid, floors in fact anywhere.

Ended up with this one.

He's found the MX 5 owners forum now and is doing some more research on there aswell

Must say they seem quite difficult to value though, there seems to be quite a variation in prices on basically the same spec' of car...
