So im driving along with little man in the back, along chells way in Stevenage, when i get just outside the pub and hear Clang, bang,
scraaaaaape.....
So i pull over (im only doing about 15mph because of the speed bumps anyway), and am greeted with an eruption from the pub.
"Hoooraaaaaaayyyy" cheer the local pissed chavs.
Anyway, conscious that they are all standing there fixated on my predicament, it takes me 5 minutes (and several burns) before i manage to get the
back box off, and thrown in the boot.
The box has rusted free of the pipe, and was hanging off for some time by the looks of it, but with no noise or sign at all! - It even passed an MOT a
couple of months back...
So now ive got to find somewhere to fit a back box to the car tomorrow!
I could do it myself, but from experience, cutting exhaust pipes under the car whilst on axle stands is a phallic job at best.
Oh well. I took the kit car out after i got back for some punishment, but i think thats even short lived now, and its only a matter of time before
the head gasket goes. (Which is expected pending an imminent engine swap anyway).
I feel for you, not only the fact of an exhaust falling off, but I know the pub you mean. used to live in St.Evenage myself.
I know, places in stevenage are turning into a right overpopulated Chav colony. Its changed so much even over the last few years.

my back box fell off the car the other day - its gone in the boot and the car doesn;t sound any louder strangly enough- so i've not replaced it!
Mine doesnt sound any louder, so im wondering.....
the intermediate pipe bounces around a bit though...
We replaced the rotten back box on the 1.8 Astra we used for a banger rally across Europe with a bit of stainless steel pipe (my mate's a dairy
engnineer & they use loads of it). It sounds fine, not really noisy at all, till you go through a tunnel!
There's a lot of tunnels in the border region of France/Italy & big kid that I am I booted it through them all with the windows down!
Ive just ordered some 51mm ppe, a connector and tail peice that i will be replacing the rear box with!!
Got quoted £153.43 by fords (£98.92 for parts).
Could have bought a replacement rear box (cut pipe back, and fit) for £48.98
bought 51mm pipe, joint, and tailpipe for £32.00 from ebay shops.
All i have to do is weld a rod neat the end of the pipe for the rearmost hanger and thats it. Bolt on.
It doesnt sound that much louder if any, as its a diesel (130ps TDCi), so itll be interesting to see how it does on the emissions next year!
