Hello Boffins.

For the last couple of days whenever I try to access any"https" sites I get a DNS error.

I've tried reseting my security setting to default - no use, also altering the security slider to each position - still no joy.

Any Ideas chaps?

Cheers

Chris

Hmmmmmm.

Under Internet Options-Advanced-Security you have SSL 2.0 and 3.0 enabled?

Which version of Windows are you using?

Pete

Chris,

Sounds line you are not resolving domain names.

Go to Start>Run on the command line type cmd and hit enter. A command prompt window will appear, type nslookup www.shortshouse.co.uk and it should return the IP address 212.159.9.131

Also then type ipconfig /all and it should tell you all the IP info about your machine, one of the lines should say what your DNS servers are.

Who's your ISP?

Rich.

Here's a whole mess of Microsoft fixes:

http://www.generation.net/~hleboeuf/canotofd.htm

I'd say odds are on this one; I think I had a similar problem that was fixed by recreating TCP/IP protocals:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=188773

Something else you can try (maybe first, even, because it's easy) is to go to Add/Remove Programs, click on Internet Explorer, and you will receive an option to repair it.

BoL!

Pete

Which version of explorer and have you got all the updates installed? Are you on a dialup or ADSL connection? In your TCP/IP settings are you set to obtain an automatic IP address and DNS server address?

I had a similar problem with Freeserve... they could not resolve it and I ended up re-installing my W98SE even though they said my DNS settings were ok and functioning correctly. By deduction the installation disc didn't provide ALL of the dll files needed for correct communication and it b*ggered it up.

Hope it's not this, but good luck if it is!

Right, I'm on freeserve with IE6 on dial-up. tried pete & shortie's fixes -nothing

Cheers

IIWY - I'd backup your documents and re-install W98SE. Cost me an arm and a leg with Freeserve trying to configure using DOS to no avail ~ they had me altering my DNS settings and allsorts. Still, ended up re-installing...

1. if your behind a firewall try opening open up "Port 433".

2. Remove all dialup connections and start again
