Firewood, Logs, tress need felling, Leicestershire area??
NS Dev - 11/10/09 at 07:04 PM

Anybody got any logs they need clearing, or (simple, away from house etc) trees they need chopping down, or any other firewood laying aroudb that they need clearing?

I'm in stock up for winter mode now, and before I go clearing at the farm where my unit is (he's got a few trees he wants down) I'm on the lookout for stuff that's already down, as his oaks and ash won't be ready for burning until next year really.

Anybody with any more than a couple of wheelbarrows of hardwood, within 15-20 mile radius of Hinckley, Leics, can let me know if they want it getting rid of!

PS, this is for my logburner, not to sell on, i hasten to add!

I've got a whole load of wood but it's down here in London And I'm slowly chopping it up for my log fire!! It's blooming hard work with just a bow saw. I'm thinking of going for a chainsaw but I keep on chickening out. That's one huge accident just waiting to happen!!!

No fire wood, but when my tree surgeon trimmed my Ash trees he told me that I could burn the Ash straight away - which I did and it was fine

Still storing my oak though as that can take up to 3 years to dry out

.... but you're a doctor so wouldn't even need to dial 999, or more likely screem 999 on a voice activate phone.

Ash is generally thought of as the best burning wood, <20% moisture content is what to aim for.

I can see it now, turning up at casualty with fingers missing. " You should have brought them with you"-"I couldn't pick them up"

Ash will burn straight away but other wood needs to stand for about a year before it is seasoned or it will coke the chimney up. I have a chainsaw and also need to stock up but if I don't get any there's a tree surgeon here who sells a trailer load for £50 and it would last me two years.

£50 for a trailer load, down here on the South Coast we pay £120 per trailer load and I need 2 during the winter

Best thing about my plot is a total lack of mobile reception!!!
On the allotment no-one can hear you scream

man who burns wood gets warm twice

Three times!

Cutting it, carrying it, burning it.

Alternatively... 4 times - chopping it down, carrying it home, chopping it up, burning it.
