Camcorder with NIGHTVISION reccomendation please

As title really. I'm not up on camcorders but want one with night vision and easily downloaded into my iMac so either DVD (full size) or HDD would be ideal but as said MUST have night vision as this is all i'll be using it for.

and cheap!!

You know most camcorders are IR sensitive, mine is really so even though it doesn't have the LEDs. You can I think use an additional LED Lamp (my old Sony night vision one needed it to light up over 10m away). You can tell if your camcorder is good at seeing IR by having a look at the TV remote LED which flashes quite bright and with a white light when you press the buttons if its going to work.

I have a Sony VX2100 3CCD Cammorder. Works ok at night although doesn't have night vision setting.

What I have done in the past when filming sat night and wanted a night vision look. Using final cut pro, I set the brightness quite high and then put a green filter over the top.

Really depends on what your filming at night though.

Your not going to find a consumer level camera with true night vision (ir) you would probably need to move up to the sony semi-pro models to get this function.

The reason is that all cameras have a ir cut filter to give correct
the correct image in normal use i.e. daylight, however when using with ir you have to be able to physically move this filter out of the way.

Some people have had success with physically removing the ir cut filter from a lower end camera, however this will have an impact on its normal usage.

one other option would be to use a portable dvr i.e. archos etc and a cctv ir camera as most of these have movable cut filters built in, led ir light source and if you want sound a separate microphone.

Do a bit of research as to what wavelength ir source you need to use as cameras are sensitive to different wavelengths.

There are three main wavelengths 730nM very visable light
840nM red glow off led's but can't really be seen or 920-950nM no visable glow from led's and can't be seen by the human eye.
