Pub for lunch near Kirby (Liverpool)
carpmart - 27/10/09 at 07:16 PM

Hi All

I'm going up to Liverpool's football academy tomorrow but need to stop for a meal and I'm many miles away from being a local!

For those who live local to Kirby, can you recommend me a pub which serves a decent lunchtime or late afternoon meal? I'll be exiting the M6 on the A580 so anywhere from Haydock to Kirby will be fine!

Thanks in advance

Yeah turn right on the A580 towards Manchester, a much better place.

If you are parking in Kirby ensure your locking wheel nuts are on

He's serious! Don't drop below 30mph or your wheels will get knicked.

OK, in light of recent posts, please can someone recommend me a pub near Kirby with secure parking, I don't give a sh*t what the food is like!

It doesn't exist.....

Just off the a580 is the rainford bypass. The bottle and glass us a nice pub, here is the details

St Helen's Rd
St. Helens
WA11 7QT
United Kingdom

if that is too far, then there are few more local, but Kirkby isn't known for it's cuisine...

Kirkby isn't that rough, ignore the mancs. They get scared of anyone below middle class these days.

We've got a job in Kirkby and called in at a pub called The Game Bird on the left of the A580 as you approach Kirkby from the M6. Food all day and they have a lot of main courses at "two for £10", even some steaks which are £9.95 meals.
We were there mid afternoon and it was quiet and the service was quick and the food was nice enough (and the car still had four wheels when we left!)

Depends on what weapons you plan on taking and will you be travelling in a convoy?
They don't have secure housing, never mind secure parking.

Thanks for all the serious replies!

I think the Bottle and Glass looks great!

Ta!

The Game Bird, also dead rough (not)...

Just got back to Bedfordshire from my day out!

I went to both pubs in the end, one before the match for a quick drink and one for a meal after the game before driving home!

The Game Bird is a little 'tired' but OK for a drink and the Bottle and Glass actually served a pretty reasonable meal!

Thanks to all for the recommendations!
