Joining brake pipes ? update !

I have a brake pipe that needs replacing on my Alfa 164 - but there is a bit of a problem..........it runs from the ABS box in front of the engine , along the floor , and then up and over the tank .
I plant to re-route it around the tank so as not to have to drop the tank (which would involve dropping the whole rear suspension...) , but the routing round the engine (where there is no corrosion) is a total nightmare .
Whats the chances of cutting it in the middle , and using a joiner ?

assuming it,s steel,they are a pain to flair,no rules against it just use a male/female flares and appropriate unions

As said, unless you have use of a decent flaring tool, old steel pipes are tricky to get a good flare.

I have one of those cam-action vice mounted ones , so I hope if I can hold it solid enough (maybe stick a length of 40x40 box on as a handle?)
Thanks for the tip on fittings conrod - the joiners I have need a double flare on both pipes , using male/female fittings would simplify things a lot

No pain no gain Claire, as said joints are ok if done properly, personally I'd take a couple of hours extra and do it in one piece.

Then tend to the grazed wrists and knuckles.....

Have you seen under the bonnet of an Alfa 164 with that piggin' great V6 wedged in there
On a previous one I had to replace a front pipe - took all day , feeding it in around the steering and stuff................

Yes no problem you can do a proper professional job using a joiner (can be either male-male or female-female).

Best not to use the male tube nut to female tube nut method that is a bit iffy.


Just unclip enough of the pipe so you can work at the side of the car.

Car builder solutions stock the connector part numbers are
BUC10F for the female
BUC10M for the male

I thought things were going too well when I popped round to my friendly motor factors for a few bits to do the job and they had everything I needed - including the lower ball joint that was promised for Monday
But things just got even better - while looking for the splits in the steering rack boots (which I cant find.... ) I noticed........................................................................a joint in the brake pipes , just behind the engine !
Can the day get any better
