If i reduce the size on the online quote by 5cm, i have had some pretty cheap quotes.

Are they likely to measure and refuse to deliver if i do this?

By 5cm, no, you will be fine.

We have parcels we return from work occasionally and the measurements / weights are always way out - even the delivery driver jokes about it too so I think you should be ok.

I have had the Royal Mail measure and refuse to accept one. I then sent it DHL and they never bothered checking. They all normally limit is to 1200mm and mine was about 1350mm.

The other trick is to fit it in a bigger box, as the dimensions they measure are length, width, height. If you have something long and thin that is over the maximum length then you can put it in a bigger box and put it corner to corner. I would love to do that one day infront of the counter staff in the Post Office.

I had a summer job at parcel line back when I was a student. I never saw anything measured when I was there. There were a set of scales at the end of the conveyor though and they did sort for parcels marked fragile, though only if they spotted them.

No it doesn't matter if it's a bit big, they can still lose it

I remember there where parcels larger than 6ft.

The scale was next to the conveyor and was one that was maximum 60X50 cm so anything longer than that, the scale was out.

i think they'll only be annoyed if you're taking the wee with your measurements

ie saying its 1m long, where its actually 1.5m, you know...

I ordered a package that was 10kg, 60x60x60cm, but turned out to be 100 x 80 x 80 and just under 20kg. THey didn't bat an eyelid - not bad for £7!
