Is this about to become a fact?

Apparently the decision was taken yesterday at a board meeting where Bob Bell and Jean Francois Caubert (the replacements for Flabio and Pat Symonds) were present.

What decision has been taken is not yet known. The announcement has been delayed as Carlos Ghosn has a high profile public engagement today and Renault did not want the F1 announcement to cloud todays event.

It doesn't sound good does it?

They will not be using tyres from next year onwards.
The team will cary the car on their shoulder and the only pit stop allowed would be for drinks.

That's not quite right. I have it from a good source that they are switching to all-metal wheels, and that all tracks will be fitted with a single line of rails. The new rules are driven by driver safety and will totally eliminate dangerous crashes. It will mean slightly more emphasis will be placed on the importance of achieving a good qualifying position than with the current rules.

As a cost saving measure, steel wheels will be expected to last a whole season and the traditional pit crew will be replaced by a conductor for each team responsible for changing points and directing cars into the pits (which will be known as the siding) for fuel stops. 'Overtaking' will be implemented by a system of signals in the siding which will control the timing of a car's release back onto the track. These signals will be controlled by the senior race steward, or Fat Controller as he will be known under the new scheme. He will be instructed to initiate up to five overtakings per race, gauranteeing spectator enjoyment - an improvement over the current rules in which overtaking is much of a lottery, if it occurs at all.

Many in F1 circles praise the new rules, but some say they are too conservative and are simply not doing enough to change the sport. They claim that from the spectators' point of view, an F1 race under the new rules will appear virtually identical to a race under current rules.
