O/T bad points on a Nova (edit CORSA)
Andi - 12/11/09 at 01:16 PM

Looking at buying an 02/03 Nova for a friend.
Is there any thing specific to these cars that I need to look out for.
Apart from cream in the oil like the last one I looked at had.

Look at the rear spring mounts, they rust pretty badly there, also the front under the bonnet were the inner guard meets the bulk head has a bit of a water trap which can coause rot also.

Yup - 1993 to be more precise!! Surely the OP must mean a Corsa??

An 02/03 will actually be a Corsa 'C' in other words the second shape Corsa which is of course called the 'C' as the Nova was called a Corsa on the continent.

Also, Novas have lots of well documented foibles, but I like them so much I have just bought this to get me to and from work.

maybe he means a chevy nova

vinny1275 - 12/11/09 at 02:48 PM

Or a Nova kitcar - the beetle based one with the roof that comes up on gas struts?

timing chain rattles and rear springs breaking/broken. Brake servos rusting through ( at the bottom) is quite common as well.

timing chain tensioners + gear linkage are the main ones.

I was going to say that!

Something small-car-specific I've noticed. Make sure the back wheels are upright, missus's one has just failed the MOT on the basis that hers are so cambered they rub against the inside when people are sitting in the back
