I've been looking at used BMW 5 Series with a view to buying one sometime in the 'not too distant future' but with the imminent release
of a new model in March next year, would it be worth hanging on a few months for the price of used 5 series BMW's to drop?
What's your thoughts and opinions?
Phil
i'd hold out til the new one when loads of rich people will be trading in their old ones to be the first to have the new shape

Just looking at the same myself as I'd like to replace my E39.
I think the E60 will drop quite usefully over the next few months.
Hi Guy's
I bet your wrong!
As a car dealer i can tell you that when the current model came out it took a good 8-10 months for it to make a price impact on the old ones,in fact
prices increased slightly at auctions etc as everybody was after the good second hand old shapes.
I have had a few 5 series now and they still bring good money even with big miles as long as they have good history.
Cheers
I work at a BMW dealer and can tell you that the BMW used car market is strong at the moment for the dealers. We just cant get enough used cars, because of this they are fetching good money. You could wait for prices to drop or perhaps just keep an eye on the market and see if you can find a good quality well priced car.
So you reckon this time next year for e60 bargains?
If you are prepared to wait a year or so then yes wait but if you can only wait until march, buy now
interesting wot the dealer peeps are saying.
bear in mind VAT goes up 1 jan 2010, and at present there may be quite a few 1 owner, low mileage, water damaged BMs up north on the market.
I was in Sytners a few weeks a go and they showed me the new model, I thought it was a available now ?
Mine just came back from the BMW dealer for warranty work, get this, new steering column, new rack, TRE's, new sensors (loads !) 4 wheel
alignment
I was so impressed with all the warning messages on the dash I took a picture, 7 of the little buggers
Forgot to tell them that the windows drop after I've locked the car. But it'll wait until I'm in the house and I'll only find out
the next morning.
Possibly one of the worst company cars I've had. Would I buy another, no thanks.
