Coming home from work today about 4ish pm along the most slow and boring Leicester ring road, I knew the speed camera location so slowed down from 35
to about 28 when an ambulance flew past and put his siren on. He was proper motoring when he went past the camera but no flash???
Do emergency vehicles have some kind of emitter to stop the camera or was the cash flasher broken?
probably no camera in the box.
Nope, i've seen plenty of police fly through and flash, flash.
So obviously not an active camera
yep, got a flash when coppers fly through one near us
Might be silly question but am i right in thinking it was a 30 limit ? if so why did you need to slow to 28 ? You're probably safe at 35. I find
it really frustrating when traffic is flowing at around 33 and then slows to 25 only to then accelerate after the speed camera, especially when the
camera is facing the other way !! Up and down the gears, wasting fuel etc etc, really winds me up !! I think I must be a grumpy old B'std or do
others share this view ?
Rant over

some new cameras are digital. No flash except when needed. Consider this when speeding part a camera and it dont flash. The police in the south here are arse holes and think of every way they can to trick you into speeding.

Thats a big probable.
I must remember that as mitigating circumstances next time i get a NIP.
There's a 50 limit here with cameras in both directions and people slow down to 35 to go past them, I never figured that one out as there are 50
signs all the way along the road.

Emergency services get flashed just like any other. Round here they are all fitted with a continuously lit rear facing blue light that comes on with the strobes so that the people reviewing the film can see it was on blues and hence responding to an emergency. If the driver knows they have triggered a camera they also have to fill in a form with the details for future reference.
there is lots of leeway in cameras, round here i slow to 42 and floor it halfway through the grid.
Why not just drive past it at 30mph? Trying it a bit faster is just tempting fate and then the tears flow when the letter pops through the door.
I drive past one quite regular where some slow down to 20mph, I couldn't give a toss about evryone else I just make sure I don't get
flashed. Its on a hil, past a school so 30mph approaching and neutral down the bank. Theres lights at the bottom so all those who played with it at 35
and speeding up after are waiting on the red when I coast up.
I did, however laugh one day when I went past and it was burnt out with a tyre round it

My understanding is that camera's can't detect vehicles traveling at speeds of 180+... you said the Ambulance was motoring
