I know this is a 'how long is a piece of string' type question, but what levels of max lateral G could be expected of a well set-up 7-type
car using slicks?
Ta muchly!
Well a standard Caterham CSR is about 1.05. A decent 7 with slicks could probably get to about 1.2 or even 1.25 IMHO bearing in mind some stats I've also seen for the Elise on slicks. Most supercars are less than 1.05 though!
My race car (Fisher Fury, live axle, 2006 R1 engine, Yoko AO48rs) hits about 1.3g max in flat corners, and peaks at 1.7g round the Bombhole at Snett due to the banking effect round that particular corner. That's as measured on a Race Technology DL1.
For comparison, I starting sliding at about 0.8-0.9g in my Mojo with standard road tyres but this is very dependant upon the road conditions.
It's probably about 0.1g out there at the moment! It's a bit slippy...
Ed.
My vortx on T1-R tyres could hold 1g steady state on a 15m radius. Any increase in throttle was matched with a change in attitude of the car (steady state oversteer) and any increase in steering angle was met with an equal change in front tyre slip angle (understeer). I took that to mean the car was nicely balanced. It was beautiful actually. Stickier tyres should give even more grip.
Cheers all!
.... there I was thinking this was about Sacha Baron-Cohen's new character.
Hi
A decent set car with 048's will pull 1.5 easily. With slicks 2 and just over is regular from the data logger.
Cheers Matt
Matt,
Are these peak figures or semi steady state figures?
Most braking spreadsheets assume around 1.4g for a single seater on slicks I wonder why the cornering g should be so much higher at around 2g. I guess
the g will peak just before breakaway buy I did not think that much.
Is the 2g repeatable or could it be a one off so to speak?
Cheers
David
Hi
A bit of research on forums such as the WSCC will show you that a good majority of the spring guys in westfields are pulling 1.5 G with sower speeds
that can be attained on a full circuit with warmer tyres. 1.5 G with 048's is the top end but regular on track. With the slicks this can move up
to 2G. But it is all dependent on the drivers style. If he is very smooth these will drop but if being aggressive with the car the numbers will be
higher.
Cheers Matt
