I've got a Raymond Weil Saxo watch which cost me about £500 a good few years ago. It needs a service, new battery and could do with a new face as it has a tiny chip in it. The thing is I've had quotes from £175 - 250 which seems a hell of a lot to me and hardly seems worth it, but the watch has more sentimental vaue than anything as I bought it with a bit of money I got when my Nan died.

Any recommendations or should I just pony up the dough?!?!

Sounds about the right price, I have an Omega sea master that I bought years ago and when it packed up I put it in a drawer and forgot about it ,last year I inquired about a service with a new glass and strap and it was in the region of £200.
It is still in the drawer at present as I hardly wear a watch nowadays as I work in a food factory and cant wear a watch at work so got out of the habit of wearing one.

Yup sounds about right I paid £300 to get my Explorer serviced last year.

Unless you have a sentimental attachment put it back in the drawer and buy a Swatch

There is a bloke in burley in wharfdale. My old man takes his 40 year old Accurist to him - think it was arround £40 for a service.

new face??? you mean new glass - how can you chip the face?

dunno, but £ 150 seems rather a lot, cannot be more than 10 mnute job, soucring the glass may be the hardest part of that puzzle.

I'v used these people to repair the strap on a tag. about half the price of the high st.

Don't use the manufacturers repair service, always a rip off. Down here in the Lanes in Brighton there are a couple of good reasonable repairers.

My Dad has a Cartier watch which had a broken strap. Took it to a Cartier dealer, was told it can't be repaired and needed a new strap at £400. He took it around the corner to a local guy, fixed it in 10 minutes and didn't charge him

I've had my Omegas cleaned/serviced by Swiss Time Services in Essex but they aren't cheap.

Crystals shouldn't be expensive (unless from an AD) but a new dial might be.
