I'll start by saying "F'ING ROBBING GYPSY BASTARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I thought I was going to spend the morning working on the car but after an hour or so I looked out only to see the shed door wide open. They've
taken a De Walt bench chop saw that belonged to my dad and I think there was a decking nail gun thing of his in there too. Been fortifying the garage
for the last hour or so, there's a window right next to the shed so they may have looked in and I don't want them to come back.
I'm quite surprised as I thought I was reasonably secure, the garden has a 4-5 foot fence all the way round, a locked gate, isn't visible
from the road and the only real way out is via my neighbours garden and he's a retired rugby player who more than once has had burglars by the
throat in the street in the middle of the night.
I don't think I'll claim on my insurance, hardly seems worth it.
Anyway, my dilemma is whether to tell the wife or not. I work away from time to time and she get's a bit scared in the house on her own anyway,
although we've never had any bother and I think the house is reasonably secure plus my very large mate lives 4 doors down and she his number on
speed dial just in case.
So do I tell her or just not bother?

Reinforce as much as possible, leave nothing in view.
Get a couple of those simple flashing LED's that do nothing else.
And as for your dilemma, I prob wouldn't tell your missus, or I would make up a story that someone else's place was broken into, to remind
her to ensure all windows and doors are locked etc...
My Mrs had her car radio nicked from her car on the driveway during the night - fortunately we lived next door to a CID man at the time and he was a
light sleeper and heard the window being broken. He called out reinforcements and the perps were apprehended - all good!
However after they had let them go with a light slap on the wrist and don't be naughty any more chaps, they came back a few weeks later and tried
again 
this time they didn't get as far as breaking anything and I only found out about it when my neighbour told me they had been back.
I made the big mistake of telling my Mrs about it - she got very upset and wanted to sell the car, move house and couldn't sleep for ages - not a
happy bunny 
Wish I hadn't told her.....
I agree, best not to tell her.....
Fortify and alarm (real or fake) and hope they dont come back.
dont tell her, buy a high powered rifle and a big ass dog.
Women generally consider the home (even the shed) a bit more sacred than us blokes. We get stampy feet and maube a bit punchy. It is very common for
women to want to move after a burglary (even to your shed - beofre someone kindly points that out)
Your dilemma isn't an easy one as she sounds quite jumpy already. I wouldn't tell her but would probably get your local crime prevention
chap round for some advice.

OR1 -2LB FISHING LINE WITH A SMALL WEIGHT ATTACHED IN A TUBE WITH A DOOR BELL BUTTON ON IT(WHEN THEY SNAP THE LINE THE WEIGHT WILL DROP DOWN THE TUBE

someone had a go at the shed at my old house. my dog relieved the the scrott of a chunk of leg. Jack Russells although small are very territorial of
the garden when it comes to strangers jumping over the fence.
at the new house all the outbuildings are alarmed and i have motion sensors in the garden that make a beeping sound in the house when people walk
through the beam
you cant be to careful these days.
i recall reading somewhere that a high percentage of theft is committed by someone you know. you just have to be careful who you speak to these days
especially in the pub etc.

It would only become a moral dilemma if she caught wind of it and asked me a direct question.... lie or truth.... Personally I wouldn't say
anything myself unless she asked the question, then would have to come clean. Maybe worth mentioning to Dad not to say anything too, I'm
assuming you're going to have to tell him as its his tools they've nicked and need to be replaced.

no don't tell her but do make the fence more difficult to climb over. If she's not happy being on her own this is hardly going to improve matters. Just tell her your making the place more secure to make her feel better
don't put spikes on the fence - the police will do you.
go to wicks / b&q etc and find trellis on offer - buy some cause you thought it would be nice to grow some stuff up them this year. Put the
trellis up and it a) makes the fence higher and b) more difficult to climb over without making a noise (breaking it).
wife won't know why and you've just made it more secure.
In a few days time / perhaps a week or two, get a leaflet from the police about securing your home due to hearing about the neighbour and plant the
spikey plants that deter them.
I'd also get things alarmed - even just a simple shed alarm will help.

Do not do anthing that could cause injury to anyone, unfortunately you could end up getting prosecuted for injuring a scroat.
Best best is to use security lighting to deter in the first place and a diy alarm (or professional) to draw attention if someone was to attempt
entry.

you need lights and sound that get triggered in case of brake in.
I don't subscribe to PC nor HSE when defending my property and put barberd wire over fence at my sister's when the neighbours got robbed and
her gate was forced.
Get a bucket, put some grease in it, get some fresh dod shit, the softer the better, mix to a nice creamy consistancy. With a filling knife place it on the top of the fence in a continuous line forming a little triangle shape, this will keep the bastards out. It worked for me!!!!
