I have a small flat I rent out and have a great tennant. She has told me when she flushes the toilet the pipes around the flat bang/rattle/shudder.
Also she has told me that the shower that is fed from the mains/boiler water runs hot and very quickly goes cold while the hot is ok in the taps
around the flat.
I'm always very wary to just call a plumber I dont know as we all know it can be the luck of the draw whether we get a "ooohh well you need
a new bla bla and to replace the bla bla.. its gonna cost ya mat"
Are we talking air in the system? a blockage in the hot feed to the shower?
Any suggestions for diagnosis and cure before committing to the unknown plumbers bill.
we need a photo of the women in the flat first.....
Don't know, but can you afford bying a nice flat in trowbridge with secure parking, decent sized rooms etc..? I am still looking for one but no luck and i need to move out by the end of the month.

Good look with finding somewhere.
The flushing toilet thing is probably water hammer, especially if it happens when the cistern float is coming up to the top of it's travel (i.e.
just about to close the valve).
There are various cures for this - adjust the level of the float, fit a damper on the float arm (stops it oscillating), or put an
'anti-hammer' device in the cold water supply (a gas-filled tube that absorbs the shock waves in the water). Loose cold water pipes can
make the hammer sound worse than it is - the pipes flap around.
As for the shower - maybe the thermostatic thingy (technical term) in the mixer is knackered?
As for a plumber - ask your neighbours/friends if they know of a reliable local man. Expect a minimum of a call-out charge (usually minimal if
he's a local man) and then at least you'll know what needs to be done - even if you end up doing it yourself.

Fit a new Torbeck valve to the cistern or try turning the pressure down with the stop c0ck where the water comes into the flat. Take the shower out
and fit a bath

I seem to remember that the mixer thingy is just a big mixer tap dial thingy and doesnt heat the water or anything apart from mix it. Its very nice and solid but the hot water is piped straight to it and it is fed off the "BATH haha" hot water feed which I think she said is ok.
Just want to be a bit clued up for when I go round to check it out.

who is the manufacturer of your shower?
My shower runs from the tank and I had a similar problem in that the shower water did not warm enough but the taps were scorching hot.
Rang the company (cant for the life of me remember who mine is) and they sent me out a part free of charge which I replaced myself. Basically the part
was sticking and stopping enough hot water getting through to the mixer area.

I have to admit, simplest explanations are.
- Mixers shot, particularly if its got worse over time, the dont last forever.
- Cistern ball cocks changed a bit, causing hammer, and backing pipes.
The mixer in our shower (18yo) did simular and i took it to bits, the old bimetalic strip and corroded and sweled so it couldnt move properly. Scraped
the rust of it, bit of waterproof grease (every little helps) and its been fine since. Otherwise get a new one fitted. This one was just behind the
tiles rather than surface mount and didnt want to disturb it all!
Water hammer, as said, new ciston valve might well cure it if its a decent one with a nice clean cut off (rather than resonating/vibrating) .

I now know the shower is a MIRA 415 if that helps.
i had this problem with a 415 tried everything new cartridge took the shower off and cheaked enough water flow to it tried it with and with out the flow restrictors in spoke to mira tech and they had no clue in the end fitted a bristan shower and worked fine
i've got a bristan so cant help i'm afraid
