Free electric from BT

ok not that i would ever do this but. . . .

what sort of power would you be able to get from a BT phone line.

ac.dc
voltage
current

would there be enough to charge up some 12v batterys for LED lighting ?

cd.thomson - 8/3/10 at 10:54 AM

internet says 50v DC usually with 80-90AC overlaid on that when it is receiving a signal.

I'd be interested to see how you could make that usuable without breaking something

also if you come across this: http://www.phone4energy.com/ it is almost definitely a scam.

Didnt the old style telephone boxes have a lamp inside them powered over the phone line?

i remember seeing a thing a while back about making a small LED lamp that plugged into the phone line... it can be done

48V DC while inactive with 2k or 4k of resistance in the line. If you draw more than a few mA then the line activates as if you'd picked up the receiver so you can't get much power out of the line.

Every daft/crazy idea ever thought of, has already been cast out of cheap plastic in China, then had LEDs stuck on it and sold on eBay

Dont start doing that ....we have enough problems powering the telco on its own without you taking a slice of the ever decreasing pie.....planners dont do electrical.....just keep adding kit till it fails

You might get a knock on the door when BT notices your permanently activated line. And then a slap on the wrist.
