Just realised i might have been sold a pup....
Bought an ex Supermono race bike off ebay last year, just gettign round to restore it and make it a road bike.
Basically the engine has no numbers on it although the V5 has.
Now, I now it may have come from a breakers as its not the original motor. Bike was a twin 2 stroke road bike and the motor is a KLR650 with a 680 big
bore on it. Lots of money spent on it to make it a racing bike.
Whats the chances of me going out and police checking it and taking it off me? I don't have any history apart from a mot from 2003.
Steve
have numbers been ground out
or is it just blank as new casings don't come with numbers

May have been a new motor, they often come without numbers.
Unless its obviously ground off, I can't see the rozzers being interested, even the MOT man only checks the chassis number.
Looks like the numbers are ground off, really difficult to see them with all the bodywork on.
There is a number on the V5 so I reckon it came from a breakers but don't have anything to prove it!
Last thing I want is going up to Hartside and the mobile rozzer confiscating it
Well I dont think it's illegal to have an engine without a number, suspicious maybe, but not illegal.
Clean it up and stamp one on it?.
If the BiB suspect the bike to be iffy, they can impound it and you have to prove it's legit. If you can't, you've lost the bike and
you'll end-up in court.
Ideally, you need to follow the paper trail to when the engine lost it's numbers and get proof that what you have is totally legal. Or..... stamp
in the numbers you have on the V5 and hope that no-one else has the original engine fitted to a legit bike.
Good luck.
...or buy an engine with original numbers and transfer it onto the bike.
Don't be tempted to stamp over the current area as a bit of acid makes it obvious what's gone on on.

Owelly, Ian, you right on the money there.
I've just bought a pair of crank cases and a gasket set
