balidey - 26/3/10 at 09:50 AM

I can watch most things, but that is just horrid.

whitestu - 26/3/10 at 09:51 AM

That is utterly vile!

Poor little buggers

skinned knuckles - 26/3/10 at 09:56 AM

although its terrible, there are far worse things happening all over the world that we can't fix and unfortunately, with china being the the fastest developing economy in the world and our governments wanting to be friends with them, noone will do anything about furballs.

do you think that a country that practices THIS will think anything about animal rights.

dunk3 - 26/3/10 at 09:59 AM

That b--tard needs the same thing doing to him

eddie99 - 26/3/10 at 10:01 AM

I could only watch the first few seconds. Horrible cruelty. But as said, im sure there are worst things going on which need to be stopped aswell....

55ant - 26/3/10 at 10:33 AM

Don't worry, I'm sure he's still a perverted psychopath, wherever he is...

Mind you, he did realise that BEC, was "the way"!!!

***As regard the video, it is despicable, and if I thought I could do something about it on a personal level- I would. I know this sounds like ignorance, by not doing something about it anyway, but it's not always possible for a variety of reasons!***

A1 - 26/3/10 at 12:00 PM

thats wrong...and to be honest there cant be much worse than that going on.

scootz - 26/3/10 at 12:31 PM

I guess it involves animal abuse... so won't watch it - just can't (and never could) watch animals being abused!

Some people(s) just need to be removed from existence!

It's not just animal abuse Scott, so best you (and others) don't look if can't watch that sort of thing...

Sociopath is a MUCH better description.......

not going to watch the video because I can imagine........ the Chinese would do that to each other mind you given half the chance (which is obviously no excuse ) Just cos they're human beings doesn't mean they have the same values/beliefs/morals as the western world and it probably seems unremarkable to the vast majority of the Chinese population......... which make them ultimately MUCH scarier than Al-Qaeda and the like

scootz - 26/3/10 at 12:57 PM

Bloody hell... sounds awful - and any sense of curiosity to click the link has well and truly been dispensed of! No chance!

I've had the misfortune to see all kinds of nasties involving my fellow species over a number of years... some tragic accidents, others the results of a deliberate act of violence on each other. Without exception I was always able to approach each with a level of professionalism and do what had to be done. Show me an animal suffering though and I will just crumble and become the most pathetic useless sod in the vicinity!

This may sound a bit odd to some, but I have more respect for animals per se than I do for my fellow humans! Years of experiencing the darker side of 'humanity' in close detail I suppose!

You're not alone. There are a couple of instances of animal cruelty that I've read about or seen that I'm just unable to shake-off and if I think about them at all it troubles me a great deal. Hence, I won't be looking at the video. I recently posted on the PH travel forum about my plans to travel around SE Asia and what I might see. It's still a genuine worry...

STOP BUYING GOODS MADE IN CHINA WIL ANYBODY LISTEN (NO)

tomprescott - 26/3/10 at 01:51 PM

If I'm entirely honest, that doensn't bother me too much, things like this happen everyday all over the world. It does suprise me that they don't bother to kill the animals before skinning though, would be more humane and make skinning easier.

SALAD - 26/3/10 at 02:23 PM

I clicked the link, read the description and decided NOT to watch the video. Not nice.

OX - 26/3/10 at 02:41 PM

Watched the first few seconds and wish i hadn't .Now i just feel angry and helpless

perksy - 26/3/10 at 03:32 PM

Have read some of the comments, so won't even look at it for a couple of seconds

I'll get all bitter & twisted i'm afraid

I see any animal cruelty and i just want to lynch the Bas***ds responsible

The chinese have always been a barbaric nation when it comes to anything bar Panda's anyway

Worked in Japan a few years ago and fell out with a few of them when they said how nice whale & dolphin meat tasted

Mr Whippy - 26/3/10 at 05:08 PM

I'm not going to watch that tbh

redscamp - 26/3/10 at 05:24 PM

on the health and saftey side,
why risk getting bitten?
surely a dead animal would be easier and safer to skin.
i wonder if the camera man paid the skinner to put on a show?

It is that simple - It is came from an animal it probably didn't end it days in peace and contentment - same goes for cheap clothes & shoes made by children chained to sewing machines in most of Asia...

I'm about the same. Humans doing stuff to humans doesn't bother me so much, it's just when the victim is defenseless and vulnerable (animals and kids mostly) it really, really makes me angry.
Won't be watching that.

James - 26/3/10 at 09:47 PM

It is hard to "do your bit" as regards something like this. Other than avoiding those products (as said above, who buys fur these days???) what can you do? Writing to your MP is one thing I guess, donating to relevant charities is another I suppose.

BUT! There are things we can do far more directly and easily and at home!!!

And amongst all the folk who've posted saying how horrible this video is, I'm sure that next time you (or your Missus!) do your weekly shop you won't buy anything but:

free-range eggs,
British free-range pork,
Free-range chicken and other meat,
MSC (Marine stewardship council) certified fish,
Line-caught Tuna
oh, and avoid anything containing palm oil (or those products listing palm oil as innocent sounding vegetable oil).

If you can't afford free-range British pork then atleast buy British non-freerange pork as the pork welfare standards across Europe are awful compared to here.

My girlfriend and I do adhere to the above, yes, it costs us more (or we buy less!) but frankly I'm not will to PAY someone to torture an animal for my eating benefit!

Cheers,
James

scootz - 27/3/10 at 08:12 AM

The problem surrounding making a conscious decision to avoid Palm Oil is that it's more than often not listed at all in the ingredients list... it's just classed as vegetable Oil!

morcus - 27/3/10 at 08:22 AM

I've seen worse things but I kind of wish I hadn't watched it. It didn't really make sense, for one thing you'd risk damaging the fur with the methods they used (I'm in no way suggesting that is whats wrong with what I saw though, that was truely barbaric). It's almost impossible not to buy things from china just from the huge amount of stuff they make.
I didn't think we were even allowed to buy fur without permission from the government, and from the article it seems its Americans that are buying it. I don't trust Peta, I believe what I saw happened, but as someone else said, is it all true and is that the normal way?

I'm slightly uncomfortable that some here seem to think All Chinese people are barbaric monsters, I'm sure there are a great number of Chinese people who would agree that what was happening there was wrong.

Stupid question, why should we be avoiding Palm oil?

scootz - 27/3/10 at 08:36 AM

Deforestation on a massive scale to make way for Palm Oil plantations... environmental impact plus the extinction of various species of Tiger, Bear, Orangutan, etc.

morcus - 27/3/10 at 09:19 AM

Thanks, I'd heard before about avoiding Palm Oil but thats the first time anyone as told me why.

Benzine - 27/3/10 at 09:40 AM

You can get ethically sourced palm oil btw, check labels.

I've heard people moan about soya beans causing deforrestation "oh I'm not buying that soya milk, it's wiping out trees!"

Fun fact: 98% of soya beans are grown to feed cattle. XD So enjoy your steak, but avoid soya products for humans like the plague!

indykid - 27/3/10 at 11:30 AM

i didn't think there was anything that could shock me so much on the internet, but that was truly, genuinely horrific. i could only bring myself to watch to halfway through

i'm not a violent person, but if i saw someone doing that, i'd be compelled to offer them the same fate.

it might have been a one off show for PETA, who as has been mentioned, i wouldn't trust implicitly....but how the f**k could you bring yourself to do it? even if paid to do it?

if karma has its way, i hope they get their comeuppence in bucketloads
tom

Ninehigh - 28/3/10 at 11:22 AM

People still buy fur? I really thought this was a dead market now
