anyone have a squat rack taking up space in their garage?
Or could you build me one on the cheap?

i would look on ebay mate. i got a good squat rack, with full cage, and pulleys for lat pulls, pec deck, lower pulley for seated rows, standing curls.and a bench and loads of weight plates for under £200!
I've found that the most expensive things are the weight plates themselves, even on eBay I haven't found olympic weights that cost less than a pound per kilo, normally more! Good luck!
^^^ that is a bench press rack - far too low for squats, unless you are 3 ft 6 ins tall.

fair enough - looks bit unstable to me if set up high.
its a squat rack as the arms extend, suitable up to 150kgs so 2x my body weight.
I'm starting stronglifts 5x5 strength training so no more clean and jerk for me!
Should be simple to knock one up - consider parallel bars on it too as it'll give you a margin for safety if you're going heavy (from experience, if something twangs you either go down with the weights or do what I did and cause far more harm than good trying to get the bar back onto the rack safely).
Yeah I agree that I wouldn't trust them with too much weight!
Craig, have you had a look at crossfit.com - a really good site for training, 5x5's are good but some of the stuff they have on there are insane.
Keep doing clean and jerk too, the problem with 5x5, and almost all routines, is that they narrow your vision, the more varied your lifts the better
the workout imho, I know guys that can deadlift near 400kg, but they can only bench 120kg because they overly focus on one exercise. Hollistic
strength is more useful than a singular extreme lift - that is, unless you want to start competition lifting?
Can't remember anyone taking that picture of me.
