I know some people are stranded overseas and some can't fly out, but, what difference to the air quality with no planes flying.

Bloody great big volcano spewing out millions and millions of tons of Sulphur Dioxide and ash and you think air quality will be improved because planes arent flying??

Something is a not right about it all.

Few weeks ago a strike by one airline caused a huge outcry and problems
but now we have no air travel at all and
very little mayhem.

It's a conspiracy.

I was marooned in Austria on Friday with no flights from Munich. We managed to get to Calais by coach and had to queue there for well over 3 hours to get foot passenger tickets back to the UK. I have to say, the atmosphere at Calais was fantastic and everyone was in great spirits despite not sleeping for nearly a whole day and having to stand in biting cold wind being served coffee by the French Red Cross. Merci beaucoup Croix Rouge, by the way!!!

Funny how we all muck in and keep the spirits up when it's a natural disaster. I can't imagine we'd have been so accepting if it had been caused by strike action or something similar!

This Icelandic Volcano, is just the world doing "its thing"

Personally speaking I think the world will do what ever. However Mankind is not helping matters.

Consider the polution caused by industry, then compare it against the Icelandic Volcano. But bear in mind this is NOT and a Major Eruption either!
God only knows what would happen if we had a Major event like Yellowstone Park blowing. It does that about every 600,000 years...... and its due any time now!

In the scale of the world, time, and everything, I dont think I'm making a lot of difference with the emissions of my RV8 in the Viento

that volcano going off has released more co2 than man ever has i reckon.

anyway, i really don't think that no planes flying has made a noticable difference to air quality down here lol

With all those emissions spewing out it's wonder our wonderful government hasn't figured out a way to tax it - oh, it doesn't have wheels

Of course it will. It's been cycling hot and cold forever and will continue to do so.

There's a place in the Arctic taking core samples and found that about 100,000 years ago there was a global
temp rise way faster than we have now.
But hey, that was probably human caused too.

Whilst I won't deny we may have an influence it it minor. Our biggest fault is the speed we use
up the resources.

Global Warming/Climate Change or whatever you want to call it is simply the biggest opportunity to tax us the (any) government has had.

Living on a flight path, I have to say its very nice and quiet.

Theres alot of stories of people travelling long distances across Europe by car, Aparantly John Cleese took a £3000 taxi ride from Oslo to Brussels.

wasn't it pointed out in a volvsano related post - ash? - that whatthe volcano spat out is a fraction of the annuals CO2 emissions from mankind (or was it other way round).

myself, I dunno if the figure are correct but one volcano blowing its top for a week or so and bilions and billions of peeps, cars, power stations etc spewing CO2 continuously for the last 200 years or so. I'll stick my bet on mankind producing a hell of a lot more.

Its a load of hot air (or not as the case may be)

What it does show is the total lack of a back up transport system.

Trains were once the ONLY way to travel, after all jets have only been around since the 50's.

In my book there shouldn't be any need for internal flights with in mainland UK, the train is faster and (just) more accessible.

With the chunnel link and high speed trains my 3 hour journey to London should only be 5 to Paris.

But, as ever, lack of investment leaves us lacking at times like this.
